The BYU students were at that end of the court and were chanting something at him, so he raises his hand up briefly and flips them off as he sits down. The ESPN cameras quickly switched off of that shot and the announcers didn't say anything. I wasn't the only one who saw it because he was already apologizing this morning.

I’d like to think at this point in my career I see this and adjudicate it. I’m honest enough with myself to know that more than five years ago I probably don’t see it. I attribute the change to two things:

*The NFHS rule regarding players removing their jerseys while in the visual confines of the court. I’ve had a couple of players violate that rule in frustration after being disqualified.

*At least twice I’ve had a disqualified player kick a chair on the bench as though (s)he was Lionel Messi. In one situation my back was to the bench so I didn’t know what happened and my partner passed on it.

Those instances made me keep an eye on players for a little bit longer after they’ve been disqualified.

Not me. Once that player is on the bench and his substitute is in, it is time to get the game going again and focus on the players on the court. I probably would not have called anything on this even if I did see it. If he isn't going into the stands, then I am not concerned with his interactions with the fans.

I’ve been trying to stick with them until they sit down. Usually once the butt hits the seat the negative behavior ends and they just sit there and pout. I know there are ten on the floor to deal with but sometimes the radar comes up.

Had one a few years ago that I missed, but my partner and the table saw.

Sophomore game, fight broke out right near the end. The instigator decided to flip off the home crowd as he walked by the table on his way to the bench.

We had two more FTs to shoot.

In this video, if I'd seen it, I'd call it. Not sure I'd see it at this point, though.

Agree. And, I only saw it the second time I watched the video.

I would never had seen that either. Once he got to the bench and his sub is in I'm trying to get the game moving.

As the players are gathering to the bench for a TO, it's very possible I could glance over there and see it.

I do not think I would see it and I would not be upset if I did not see it. Get the game moving and if the player is on the bench, I have now focused on the court.

Peace
