SCAR vs Baylor (Video Added)

Last play of the game refs went to the monitors to see if the light was on and the time was over BEFORE a foul was called which would have sent a player to the line to shoot FTs in an attempt to tie the game.

Refs called the coaches together - game over. Baylor eeks out the win.

Let the season begin!

On-line Game Recap: Brady Heslip scored 18 points with five 3-pointers and No. 23 Baylor held on for a 66-64 victory over South Carolina, without making a field goal in the final 7 minutes and having to wait out a lengthy review after the final buzzer Tuesday before officials determined there wasn't yet another foul in the game.

South Carolina (1-1) was desperately trying to get a tying basket, and the ball was still being batted around when the buzzer sounded at the same time a referee blew a whistle for an apparent foul. The refs reviewed the video before declaring the game was over.
The Gamecocks didn't score again after Sindarius Thornwell penetrated around 7-foot-1 Isaiah Austin with 4:20 left to tie the game at 64. Thornwell had 20 points.

The game was plagued by 55 fouls, and Baylor held on while shooting only 51 percent on free throws.

Thanks APG. The long range shot down the length of the court, straight on was the one they kept showing and it seems to prove they made excellent use of the monitor and replay.

Took the officials a while to review it, then they got together and chatted, got the coaches together, explained it, ended the game and got out of dodge.

Had the player attempting the shot been fouled before the expiration of time, however the ball not left his hand ... would that player have been entitled to FTs? And what if the try was good?

If the foul was before the expiration of time, then put that time back on the clock.

The rest is the usual "continuation" rules.

At NCAA-M level they would review the play on the tape. If the foul occurred before the expiration of time, the clock should stop when the foul occurred, so there is time left in the game and the basket would count. They would count the hoop and put the exact time the foul occurred back on the clock.

In games without the monitor, if the foul occurs so close to the expiration of time but definitely before time expires and then the shooter doesn't release the ball before the led lights/horn, then the foul would be penalized and the basket would not count. Unless any of the officials had definite knowledge of the number of tenths to put back on the clock. In which case the hoop would count.
