First college game
Hi all,
I'm doing my first ever college game this coming weekend, NAIA girls jv. I've got a handle on the basic rules/mechanics differences, i.e. shot clock, two handed reporting, restricted area. Can some of you veterans offer some tips on other rules differences? Any helpful hints? Thanks!!! |
There's a chart in the back of the book that's a good summary. Ask your partners for help on any multiple fouls issues -- when one is flagrant, for example.
Know who has the last second shot and when to lock down. Good luck. |

Good luck :) let us know how it goes.

Remember the new block/charge rule.
But as always, pick two or three things to work on. Any more is too much. |

Good point on the 2-3 items to work on. |

I've had the book all summer. Picked it up at camp. I was just looking for helpful hints from the wise members of this board. |

No he was not referring to the low defensive block. We still don't have that in NCAA-M, only the RA. The new rule pertains to obtaining legal guarding position. In order to establish legal guarding position, the defender must have established that position before the offensive player starts his upward movement with his hands, as opposed to the previous rule of being there before the offensive player is airborne.

Here’s what comes to my mind of what to keep in your mind: *Same game just older – and possibly better – players. *Remember your guidelines. *Call what needs to be called (if there’s a choice between an “ant” and an “elephant,” get the elephant). *Don’t screw up. :D As for rules, you said you’ve been in the book for a while so that's good. Just remember whose rules you’re working with that night. On an NCAAW night I hide my NFHS rule book because I don’t want it cluttering my head and vice versa. |

Remember on FTs ... those in marked lane spaces can move on the release, shooter and those outside the lane can't enter until the ball hits the rim.
This came up over the weekend at a juco jamboree in Wichita. I was working with a HS official who called a lane violation when there really wasn't one. Otherwise, slow down and take your time. Good luck! |
