Another free throw?

Hi everybody, gearing up for the season, and reviewing some notes. A1 is shooting the first of two free throws, and as the ball is in the air, A2 fouls B1. I am pretty sure shot counts if made, but do they get 2nd free throw? What if first shot is missed? Case book 6.7 situation B says no substitute free throw is awarded if not successful....but is that true with the shooter getting 2 free throws?

What if it was the first of a one and one free throw?

Shoot the second shot with the lane cleared, then penalize the foul on A2.

The foul is during a dead ball, right? Is it intentional? Technical? (assuming NFHS)

Just remember that all earned FTs are always taken unless there is a FT violation that cancels the shot or time has expired for the game and the FT would not change the outcome. No matter what else happens, shoot the FTs that remain.

This is a false double foul situation. Both fouls are penalized in the order that they occurred.

"Substitute FT" means "do-over for the one that was in process when the incident occurred."

So, when there's a foul after the ball is in flight, the current FT stands, whether it was made or missed. If it was a 1-1 and the first is missed, there's no second FT. If it was the first on 2 (or 3, or second of 3, etc), then the second (or third) is shot.

Contrast that with a foul (by the offense) before the FT is in flight, or a violation by the defense. Here, the current FT is "canceled" and a "substitute" FT is awarded -- a "do over"
