Who gets the ball when it gets stuck between the backboard and rim?

Mark Padgett Tue Aug 05, 2003 10:52pm

Whoever has the possession arrow pointing their way.

Unless it occurs during a throw-in, in which case the opponent of the thrower gets the ball

Tony, You missed two:
How about on a free throw when the ball is to remain dead following the throw, or if it happens on a try for goal following a foul.

I think you are nit-picking on this one.

I didn't miss anything. Nobody gets the ball in those situations. The play simply continues as it would had the ball not gotten stuck. It is of no consequence.

Tony, you missed another: what happens if we have a wedgie after GT or BI? :p

BktBallRef Fri Aug 08, 2003 02:19pm

Wait...what happens if a wedgie occurs during halftime warmups? :)

Obviously. I did it because I was teasing Tony that he was nit-picking Padgett's post. ;)

No, I wasn't nitpicking Mark's post. In the situation I brought up, it's not an AP, it's a violation. just making it clear for the original poster. In your reply, no one will get the ball. play will continue as if the wedgie didn't occur.

Very true. I just thought that you were pointing out non-AP situations.
