Whistles needed? (video - 4 plays)

Yeah, I know, some are cut and dried but seeing plays never hurt anyone.

By the way, the calls made during the game were:

1. none
2. none
3. offense
4. defense

1) Foul - Definitely need a foul on this play. Even if he makes the dunk we should probably still have a whistle because this can be a dangerous defensive play.

2) No Foul - This is the only one that is close. Technically an illegal screen but the player makes it through and the end of the quarter kills the play.

3) No Foul - Play on

4) No Foul - Possession Consequence - Ball rebounded opposite direction from clamped players. It is good that the lead was refereeing his rebounding coverage and if a foul is going to be called then he got the right player (black team) who is clamping the white player.

foul
foul
play on
foul on the white player who ended up with the rebound

1. Foul and missed dunk helps make that call.

2. I am leaning towards foul, but it also looks like he jumps through the screen and I am wondering if that was because of the contact or because of the way he choose to jump through.

3. No foul

4. No foul, ball goes away from these players. It might be a GM foul where these players have been an issue or the game is chippy. But normally that is not a foul from me.

Peace

1. Foul
2. I am leaning towards no call since he jumped around the potentially illegal screen and I cannot tell what he clips his back foot on to lose his balance.
3. No call
4. The foul is called on the proper player if there is going to be a foul called. I will assume it was more of a GM play and agree with JR's assessment.

Pushed the black player underneath and then got the long(ish) rebound.

1. Block
2. Probably an illegal screen
3. Play on
4. Foul on 12 white.

Pretty much agree...on all counts. I'm probably more convinced on #2. I think it is a foul worthy illegal screen....it never hurts to call illegal screens.

I call a lot of them relative to my fellow officials, so I agree with the last statement.

Peace

Just My Two Cents ...

Play #3: No possibility of a push ("over the back")? Not even a slight possibility? Not even a half a thought?

Kid simply got out jumped IMO.

Play 1: Foul for the undercut
Play 2: I've got nothing
Play 3: No foul
Play 4: No possession consequence...no foul unless there was some reason in the game to clean up rough play

BillyMac Mon Sep 16, 2013 06:38pm

Slight ???

You could be right. Even if he hadn't been pushed a little under the basket by the slight push, he didn't seem to be in a good rebounding position, or a good rebounding stance, before the slight push. He probably wasn't getting that rebound no matter what happened.

During the play you might (should) be thinking "hmmm .. this might become something" but when it's over you can just think "good patience; good no call"
