I had somebody ask me a question and I didn't know. Was it ever illegal to dribble the ball above the head or shoulder?

I agree with Mark! :D

But I'll add, it sure is called a lot! :(

Malcolm Tucker Sun Aug 03, 2003 10:56pm

That is because a lot of referees do not understand player control.

Many violations are called wrongly because of this.

A player could do the "stomp" and not travel providing the pivot foot does not leave the ground. Hang on I think you made need to lift both feet to do the "stomp" now let my mind wander back 30 years.

Now that was relaxing

Malcolm, whatthehell is the "stomp?" :D

There was a song by some group and this was a short lived dance in the early 70's. English Group I think had it.

Geeze,Malcom,if you "Google" the "Stomp",you get over 82,000 hits.Everything from a Tennessee line
dance to a Cherokee Indian religious dance.

Of course,I also found that it's supposed to be Australia's national dance. :D

I did not know that. I though everything we did came from you yanks or the poms.

Certainly was an easy dance to remember when you had had 52 beers. Beer here is a truly alcholic beverage unlike yours.

To look at me now you would never know I was once a surfer of little note.

STOMP!

Stomp is also the name of a fairly successful Broadway show/group,(Not sure which). They also toured. I think they originated in England, then brought their show to U.S..
They were percussion oriented. I saw them in Dallas, TX.

How is this post related to basketball? A landfill starts with the first piece of trash, you know. If you don't have something basketball-related to contribute. . . Never mind. See, Sam? Sometimes it's ok to wander off the reservation a little ;)

To everybody else, I'm sorry, but I couldn't help myself

Damian Mon Aug 04, 2003 06:17pm

Back on the reservation...Back in the 70's

We were taught that dribbling higher than the shoulders was considered illegal (not a sick bird). I can't remember and don't have a rule book from then, but that is how we called it. Back then, players didn't have the control or legality to palm the ball. So, a lot of as we see it today was not allowed.

And, as long as you're able to maintain a dribble, you can do the Hustle or the Charleston or the Macarena or . . . . .
