I have seen guys wearing Shox with patent leather toes. I liked the look and like running in the other Shox I have had. Does anybody have any idea on how to order them? I had been told you can create them on the Nike website but I havent had any luck. Anybody have any ideas?

go to,

http://nikeid.nike.com/

and then click on "need help building your NIKE ID Order" which should outline the rest.

$110!!!!

For $110 I better get a nice steak and a bottle of wine with that shoe...

SHOX

The shoe looks like it is make of plastic, if so I do't want my feet in a plastic shoe.

ref18 Mon Aug 04, 2003 03:55pm

i also don't like the look of nike shocks for reffing, the converse with a good insole are good enough for me

Mregor Tue Aug 05, 2003 09:26am

New Balance

I prefer the New Balance 609. Put a good insole in those and you can run all day. Any patent leather is going to be like plastic and not breathe. I don't get how people can wear those Converse patent leather. Might as well wrap your feet in a plastic bag.

shox

Mregor, hit right on the head. You can't beat the New Balance shoe.

Amen! I bought a Dr. Scholl's insert that makes 'em even more comfortable.

One question for the panel: How do you all feel about polishing your reffing shoes? Mine are clean and in good condition, but I don't really see the need to polish them. Am I being unprofessional?

Mregor Tue Aug 05, 2003 03:28pm

Polish

I always give them a good shine early in the year and then use the Kiwi liquid polish for touchups before each game. Looks better IMO.

Does Leather Luster take well to the New Balance?

ace Tue Aug 05, 2003 08:12pm

Talk to Steve at Purchase Officials Supplies... he's real big into the lEather luster. He'll tell ya. He was at the camp I went to and had some of his other shoes sitting out. Ummm call Purchase or send an emial attn: to him. He's incharge of sales for texas I think.

Hmm

I made and all black Nike Shox on the nikeid, and I really liked it. I am now considering getting some for the upcoming season.

My only problem is that I don't know if those who would be potentially scouting/evaluating you to move up would like them any.

I have used Leather Lustre on both NB 608's and 609's with excellent results. As long as you follow the directions and get the pores opened up before applying the lustre, the shoes will look great. I have had several people even ask where I found the New Balance shoes in patent leather. They do look good!

lrpalmer3 Mon Apr 19, 2004 10:42am

Yeah, but what's the best insole? Or what insoles have you tried and liked?

ShadowStripes Mon Apr 19, 2004 10:51am

It's all about personal preferences, but I wore the personal ID Shox high-tops in black this year and was pleased with the performance and comfort. I recommend them.

IMO you don't have anything to worry about. Shoes have changed a lot in the last 10 years. Back then about 80% of the refs were wearing Converse Runnin Refs. Now it is more of a "whatever floats your boat" mentality as long as they are 98% black. If you looked closely there were refs in the tournament wearing Nikes with an exposed air bubble. Even that was sort of voodoo a couple of years ago.

Where are you guys buying the New Balance and are they in any stores where I can try them on? I'm totally a Nike man BUT when the dogs start barking during these long AAU days I'm open to try something else.

VOODOO!?!? Is your association okay with this!?

footlocker Tue Apr 20, 2004 10:59am

I just ordered a pair. I'll see in 3-4 weeks how I did.

BTW, I hate the New Balance shoes. There is one thing we can be certain of, we're all built differently.

LOL. Good catch, Juulie. Hey, whatever it takes to move up the ladder. . . ;)

ShadowStripes Tue Apr 20, 2004 11:15am

One other suggestion for those wearing Shox - If you want to shine the synthetic part of the shoe that isn't the shiny cobec (patent gloss), buy a can of the Armor All surface wipes. Works like magic...

I doubt that would hold anyone back -- what is the supervisor going to think, "Damn, that guy can referee, but those shoes... ah, too bad." ??

If yoru sup. really hates them that much I'm sure that he'll just say, "Lose the shoes."

I've had a few different kinds of the last couple of years -- not the shox, but I've considered trying them... I always get a few yahoos that make comments about my shoes, but they are just hella-jealous!

tomegun Tue Apr 20, 2004 05:57pm

Rainmaker, I don't understand your question. If you are asking me if I've heard comments about this in the past the answer is yes. I had the bubble covered but the comment was made about someone who didn't cover it. If you are saying it is still a problem, no it isn't. It isn't a problem on the local scene and if you watched the tournament or the NBA games you should have seen it isn't a problem at the higher levels. If you still have those who oppose this....when in Rome........

lrpalmer3 Wed Apr 21, 2004 02:30pm

Has anyone ever been told by a supervisor not to wear the visible swoosh or air bubble. I sold my soul to Nike years ago and love the look of MAX air.
