Having discovered for the first time what the Eurostep apparently is, I'm not sure whether to be overwhelmed, underwhelmed, or just plain whelmed.
What's illegal about this?

We've already seen it's rise. And it's rather easy to officiate. All it is is 2 long strides that includes a change of directions. And usually the player slows down to accomplish the move making it easier for us to pick up the pivot foot and see if it is replanted.

See here.

I have seen it already many times over the last 2 or 3 years. Players at least in my experience in HS have tried it often.

Peace

Video not found.

Not that I'm particularly disappointed in that.

Everything old is new again...

Clyde "The Glide" Frazier, Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, Magic Johnson, all changed direction within the rules, on drives to the basket. Of course, most of the fans, officials and commentators nowadays aren't familiar with their exploits.

The euro step is basically a layup but with lateral steps vs steps strait to the basket. Skip to about 60 seconds

Can't imagine anyone getting confused by what they show there -- nor does it really look any different from what I've seen in play.

up next: The set shot is dead! Be ready for the jump shot!

This has been around for years.

It used to be called "going around somebody".

Well, that's why it's called a "Euro" step, because here in America we run through or jump over people who get in our way. :D

Pivot foot up + pivot foot down = tweet.

Is there anything else we need to know about this?

Good point except that NBA pivot foot and NFHS pivot foot are not always obtained the same way

True, but it still holds true...pivot foot up, pivot foot down is a violation no matter the rule set.

BillyMac Thu Jun 20, 2013 06:17pm

Exception To The Rule ...

How about "And One" games, as seen on ESPN?
