Ed Hightower announces retirement

Despite what you think, one of the legends is retiring after this coming season.

Peace

Some think that this is a few years too late.

I wouldn't mind if Foster toned down his antics.

I am too...but how many of us would know it was time to step down before it was a few years too late?

He was an improvement

After Lenny Wertz, Ed Hightower was a Godsend.
Hank Nichols could not carry him.

Multiple Sports Wed Jun 05, 2013 01:58pm

Remember going to Fred Barakat's camps in the early 90's......everybody wanted to work the 8:20pm game on Ct. 2 at Robert Morris in front of Lenny......best clinician I've ever met !!!!!!

Hightower is from a different era where guys were much more emphatic, expressive or dynamic. Those days of that being acceptable has clearly changed. You cannot even in some have your mechanics "pop" and people judge that as "selling" a call. I think everyone has gotten too robotic and rehearsed or that is what is expected when it only causes confusion. Not that I loved everything about Hightower, but you never thought he was not confident in what he called.

Peace

As someone who sees him in Madison a few times a year, I'll miss him.

I'm not a fan of officials who have no flair, style, personality, etc.

If Crawford works the finals, he might get his opportunity to take Tim Duncan out behind the woodshed.

Indeed, Ed is a legend of officiating. I wonder what conference he will be the coordinator of? That seems to be par for the course... Shaw a couple years ago and recently Kitts and Cahill.
