I understand that a player who jumps to shot, gets blocked, with out the ball leaving their hand and then returns to the ground hasn't committed a violation. Jump ball is called.

What i don't know is this.

Player in attempting a jump shot(in shooting motion) has the ball knock loose by the defense. The offensive then regains control of the ball( on their upward or downward motion) and then lands with the ball.

My question is? What is the call.

4.25.2.
Play: A1 jumps to try for goal or to pass the ball. B1 leaps or reaches and is able to put his/her hands on the ball and keep A1 from releasing it. A1: (a) returns to the floor with the ball; or (b) is unable to control the ball and it drops to the floor.

Ruling: A held ball results immediately in (a) and (b) when airborne A1 is prevented from releasing the ball to pass or try for goal.

Its not a held ball because in the original post the key word is he knocked the ball LOOSE. If the defender has a hand on the ball on the way up or puts a hand on it then returns to the floor. Then you got a jump ball. but if he just knocks the ball loose, you got nothing. If the offensive player regains control he can pivot, pass, shoot or dribble on.

The way I learned it was as soon as the ball is knocked out of the offensive players hands, whether he regains posession in the air or on the floor, all bets are off. No call because no violation has occurred.
