Why would they hold thier whistle there....they didn't hold at any other time.

After watching both games, it seemed like the crews came from two different planets.

Nobody has mentioned the GT call where the ball never got above ring level? Even in real time, I said to the TV "Ooo, I don't think so. . ."

Wasn't it because the ball had hit the backboard?

Why would there be (if it is the play I'm thinking of)? It was a pretty easy and-1.

I said that earlier, they didn't pass on much, and they didn't there. Where they over officiating?

Given how D1 games normally get called, I think yes. They called a lot of stuff that normally gets passed on.

Not that I'm any special ref, but I think Hess' jump ball call in that situation was a tad "knee-jerk" at best. . .

Gotta let players decide that situation. . .just my $.02 cents worth. . .

Not a factor if the ball isn't entirely above the ring.

All I will say is I saw one of the officials out after the game. He was with another guy that I beleve worked the tournament but not that far.

Peace

Everyone says Karl Hess called the jump ball, I just looked at the video and it was Terry Wymer who called it.

Two of them called it...IIRC.

Yes, that's why it was called. Unfortunately, the rule states that a ball is considered to be on its downward flight if it is touched after it hits the backboard and is completely above the height of the rim.

Since the ball never made it above the rim (and it wasn't even close, really), it should have been ruled as a legal blocked shot.

I think this is an interesting comment..Can you expand on what differences you noticed between how the games were called?

Thanks!
