Duke - Louisville Video request

Let's maybe discuss the GT call at 13:59, first half.

Adam Sun Mar 31, 2013 04:22pm

And the travelin at 13:16. I didn't think he had control.

JeffM Sun Mar 31, 2013 04:34pm

On play 1, I thought the ball was on the way down

I thought the ball was on the way down and that it was a good GT call.

I agree.

Adam Sun Mar 31, 2013 04:36pm

Dumb lane violation on L'ville at 8:09, too.

Adam Sun Mar 31, 2013 04:44pm

That injury is nasty. Even the Thornton from Duke looked like he was going to get sick.

Adam Sun Mar 31, 2013 04:54pm

Pass and crash, 4:54 first half.

OKREF Sun Mar 31, 2013 04:59pm

Block. 2:13. First half.

NoFussRef Sun Mar 31, 2013 05:01pm

Anyone able to post clip of the compound fracture?

all I saw was the distant angle, that was bad enough.

JeffM Sun Mar 31, 2013 05:06pm

Questionable no call with Seth Curry at 50.8

I would like to see this, too. Looked to me like he jumped and just dropped it on purpose. Makes up for the other travel call when the Duke player lost control and still got called.

Please DO NOT post video of the injury. If you want to see it, find it somewhere else. It has nothing to do with officiating, and frankly it's so gruesome, any video should carry a strong disclaimer.

It is already up on YouTube and other places. I have not seen it but many are claiming this is bad and I honestly do not want to see it right now.

Peace

I am thinking Joe Theismann. I remember being scorekeeper for my step son's AAU team the year before I put the stripes back on, and the coach's son suffered an arm break that was gruesome. I did not look. I finished coaching that game and the next one, but the players' clearly had their minds on their teammate. I suspect if Louisville wins this game, it will take a compartmentalization to the nth degree by the Cardinal players.

JRutledge Sun Mar 31, 2013 05:31pm

Ironically CBS showed a Tweet from Joe T about this injury.

Peace

I absolutely love the no-call on the flop at 16:20 (2nd half).

And then they rewarded Curry for a flop.

It's Duke. What do you expect.

I don't know, I thought that was a good call.

13:46. Travel or not?

13:47ish second half. Loose ball sequence Louisville travel? It looked like the player gathered on his stomach and rolled to his back.

<s>No, I think his momentum covers the roll on this one.</s>

Never mind. I just watched it again, and I think he traveled.

Travel but there was a foul on the rebound too.

Besides any call against Duke is a good call.:D

We're not talking about pool balls here. I thought Dieng went completely through him.

We need a poll. :)

There's a lot going on here.
Louisville got away with a push on a defensive rebound at 12:32.

JeffM Sun Mar 31, 2013 05:55pm

I thought it was a good foul call on the Dieng - Curry contact.

stiffler3492 Sun Mar 31, 2013 05:56pm

No video please of that injury

We always sort of joke about only stopping play right away for blood or for a bone sticking out of a leg. It's a real shame that happened to Kevin Ware. I don't think I'll be joking about that anymore.

This game would be so fun to officiate. Stuff going on everywhere.

Will still joke about that. This sounds like this is more of a football injury than anything. I have never seen an injury that bad in basketball. Had a dislocated ankle take place in a game once, but that sounds minor to what I am hearing about this injury. I just pray for the kid and his family and his recovery.

Peace

+1

It's the sort of injury that could end a career.

Adam Sun Mar 31, 2013 06:04pm

Foul at 9:12, shot waved off. I think it's the right call.

Scenario: If Ware had been fouled during a shot attempt (and that visible leg injury occurs), who shoots the FTs?

Opposing coach's pick from the other four players. There's no exception in the rules for a compound fracture.

Unless there was blood on Ware's leg from the injury, you are correct.

I'm sure there was, but that would make a difference?

yes it does, you cant fake blood. not impressed with the officiating thus far.

I have been. There have been a lot of tough calls, and they got almost all of them right, IMO.

Funny you say that, I was asked about that from a person in a class about someone using fake blood. All I could do is, "" as my expression. And yes, he was serious.

Yes there is.

Believe it or not this same person was in a football class that I teach as well and asked about a delay penalty in football. This guy asked, "If a player dies in the locker room....do we still penalize the team for being late?"

We subsequently stopped allowing him to ask questions anymore. ;)

Peace

I agree. They did a pretty good job.

Since you all basically want a replay of the entire game ;) hang tight for these plays.

Yeah, I knew we were asking a lot.

AremRed Sun Mar 31, 2013 08:51pm

I was at the game. They did not show any replay of the injury, so most of the crowd did not know what happened until we got text updates from friends. I could tell it was serious because Pitino immediately called for the medical guys, and three of the Louisville players collapsed to the court.

The game was ok, lots of fouls as has been noted. Seems like neither team adjusted well to what was being called. Tough game to call, but they had very high quality officials.

I was pretty far away from the court, but the only things that piqued my interest from where I was sitting were the foul by Plumlee at 3:45 in the first half, a no-call on what looked like a travel at 0:54 first half, and the no-call travel during a loose ball at 13:46 second half.

Watch the angle from the backcourt, Curry clearly braces for impact, but falls straight back, not to the side at all. Dieng ran through Curry, not trying to move around him avoid contact.

L should have gotten this. L was near the paint, as if he was about to initiate a rotation. Perhaps the L missed it because he was too close and didn't have a view of all the action in his area?

Am I going to? Absolutely not.

If it took place during a play where officiating was a factor then I would. Posting that play as it took place would be nothing more than gratuitous. I work in the news media so I see enough video that falls into that category on a daily basis.
