What about when the fouled player goes to the line to shoot FTs? Is that a win-win too?

Peace

Only if the team's in the bonus. So we got two points for Team A (no three point arc back then) if the ball is released before the "offensive" foul by the Team A player, an "offensive" foul charged to the Team A player (counting toward his five, and the team's seven). After that, either Team B gets the ball and can run the end line eighty-four feet away from their basket, or, if in the bonus (no double bonus back then), the Team A player who was fouled gets to shoot a one and one.

If the officials do this quick enough, the coaches won't have time scratch their heads and to figure out if they're pissed at the officials, or not, so I guess that it's, at the worst, a winning situation for the officials.

Note: It was a long time ago so I could be wrong, but don't recall this happening very often. Usually the "offensive" contact was before the release.

I wish I could count the many times a coach claims we should count the basket in a HS game. So I am not sure they would be shocked if that happened. Then again these are coaches we are talking about.

Peace

Must be old timers? I'm hearing less, and less, of this request as these old time coaches dribble toward the big basketball court in the sky.

Why would it have to be an old-timer? Many coaches I come in contact with either played college ball or watch college basketball, like we doing now. That is where many of them are getting their "knowledge" of the rules in the first place.

Peace
