Reebok Zigs

Has anyone here had any luck finding the Zig Refs in an actual store (preferably a national chain)?

I was supposed to be getting a pair in before a tournament this weekend, but apparently they decided to delay the order so I am searching once again.

BillyMac Tue Mar 12, 2013 04:13pm

Not A Brick And Mortar ...

Not an "actual" store, but I just got mine. Took about a week. In stock. Good price.

Purchase Officials Supplies - Reebok ZigTech Patent Leather Referee Shoe

I would love to get them without the patent leather. Too showy for my style. Doesn't go with my black belt, and noose lanyard. Any suggestions?

grunewar Tue Mar 12, 2013 09:13pm

What's a store? ;)

Oh geez! Just picked some up and these suckers are shiny, had never seen in person before! Comfortable though...

Wear them with a CCA jacket at your next AAU tournament. :D

Rich Wed Mar 13, 2013 02:46pm

Time to buy a pair. I got 2 seasons out of my first ones and I ripped out a piece of the insole in my second last game this year.

Maybe I'll get two and put a pair away like I used to do with the Converse Running Refs I bought in the 1990s. :D

No CCA here, just basic black. Are you implying I should have a more low-key pair of shoes for AAU? (Will do my first AAU this summer and don't want to be "that-guy"...)

I don't get the post, myself. I wear my Zigs for *everything*.

My Zigs are my most comfortable shoes. I wear them for my college games and up-tempo high school games. I will also wear them for my post-season HS games. I wear high top New Balance 889 for the rest of my HS games.

In the off-season I like to rotate my shoes, especially when working multiple games over a weekend. I do the same thing in camp.

I have a pair of low top New Balances that are also comfortable but not very stylish that I keep in my trunk. I wear them for scrimmages and low profile off-season stuff.

Because I don't work as many games as most folks and because I rotate my shoes I have 3 pair of serviceable shoes that I can wear anytime.

I believe in shoe rotation, too. I rotate between 2 pair of Zigs. :D

I have Zig plate shoes for basketball, Zig base shoes, and Zig shoes for football, too.

The way you mentioned the shoes with a CCA jacket after the conversation about some CCA jacket people big-timing their partners made me wonder if the shiny Zigs in an AAU setting would be sort of faux pax.

Along the same lines, people with experience, do you wear a pre-game jacket at AAU games, and if so is it a plain one without your association logo or do wear your association jacket?

Thanks for the advice from more experienced voices.

Wasn't me. The CCA jacket is for college games where I live. Shoes are shoes.

I would like a steel toed shoe for football (umpire). Do you think the instep guard could be permanently removed without screwing up the shoe?

KevinP Wed Mar 13, 2013 07:46pm

Tanger Outlet Mall, the Reebok store, Reebok zigtech non patent leather, used the patent leather for 2 years, going back to mesh, little lighter, 65.00. These are clearance items. Tanger malls in downstate Michigan.

I hate you and your normal sized feet. My duck feet can't fit into Zigs at all, so I'm stuck with NB plate shoes for a pro level shoe.

You would not be out of place wearing patent Zigs here. I've had partners at all levels wear them, they are a very popular shoe here. I wanted a pair until I tried them on.

Fortunately for my wallet I did not work a single girls game this season.

My first girls games for 2012-13 season will come next month when the Nike Girls AAU comes to town. And I will be wearing my Zigs because Niele Ivy and few other hot assistant coaches will be in town for that. :D

Yes, fit like a glove. I got the all black low tops. I may get to wear them by May, the way things are going.

I just bought 2 pairs of basketball Zigs (just ordered a minute ago), size 10.5 (1/2 size up from my normal shoe -- they run a bit narrow). Honig's has them for $100/pair. Can anyone tell me why I'd choose to spend with them when Purchase has them for $85?

Mrcrash3 Thu Mar 14, 2013 02:46pm

I'll take a stab at it...
Cuz you want to deduct 200.00 from your taxes next year instead of 170.00:D

No, why? I need a 13.5 but Hongs doesn't have it, Purchase does.

Did you see my question at the bottom of the first page?

Someone (I forget who) makes a plate shoe with a removable metarsal guard. That might work for you.

Sorry, missed it -- the plate isn't removable on the Zig plate shoe without some surgery.

*sigh*

I know.

That's why I asked if you thought it could be removed/cutoff without totally screwing up the shoe. I've never seen a pair, so I though I would ask someone who has.

I created the same shoe, except it has a white stripe and Reebok on the back. Ad $15 shipping and $145 is a little pricey.

A white stripe on a basketball official's shoe? I would guess that you also don't wear a black belt, or use a noose lanyard. And you probably work three man games.

BktBallRef Sat Mar 16, 2013 03:55pm

You would be correct. We're allowed to have white on the shoes.

I wear Schechers composite toe safety tennis shoes for work. 12 hours shift on concrete and the shoes really help. They are light and I think come in black so you could use for football.

I am interested as well. I have the patents and really like them, but I also like to match with my crew (plain leather vs patent leather) so I would buy another pair. I have 2-3 pair of Air Max's but find the Zigs more comfortable (and significantly cheaper).

They make a pair of John Wall Zigs that are all black. A fellow official bought them at Footlocker last year. I haven't been able to find them online.
