A BIG Thank You to Everyone here
Today I was nominated and elected to our referee board.

I have no doubt, I would not have been elected without all the excellent advice I get from members here.

It is humbling and exciting.

Congratulations. It's pretty awesome to see board members achieve accolades and success.

What exactly is a refereee board and what is it's purpose?

Hmm, that's a good question.

Are you a member of a local board?

Our board works to get games from schools. Negotiates our fees, trains new officials, they take complaints from coaches and they represent the members. We have by-laws.

Yes. Everyone has to be a local board member to work in this state. There are no restrictions on membership though. Pay your dues...and you're in.

I thought you might have meant a leadership board or board of directors.

As did I. I use the word "association" in this forum to fit in, but it's really a board. For ours, you take classes, pass a written test, pass a floor test, and you're in. Written rules/mechanics tests are annual; there are no floor or physical tests.

Terp, it sounds like yours is a lot more exclusive. Congrats!

Sounds like his is the Board (of Directors) for the local board or association.

And as long as those board members' hard work is for the betterment of the board rather than to "get games", then it pays off for everybody. Congrats.

In recent times, it seems if you're on the board, you're considered an elite official, I don't believe that's true. You're just on the board, it doesn't suddenly change your skills.

I believe my job will be to represent the members. That's what I will do.

I expect it to be a lot of work.

Sometimes it's just about attendance. I got elected to our association board of directors simply because I was absent that day.
