Clipping Plays from Video - JetMetFan

This is for anyone that has clipped and posted plays on the forum. Discussing plays is a GREAT tool for self-improvement and love to see this is where the forum and posters are going.

For JetMetFan or others who clip and save plays. Could you post an instructional thread on how to do this? It would be great if we could start looking at plays from our games. I have plenty of DVDs, but don't know how to clip it into a smaller play to share.

Thanks!~

I'll stab...

I've gotten about 15 dvds from my HS games this year.

Step 1 is to 'rip' the dvd... that is to convert it to an .m4v file. I use the open source utility HandBrake to do this.
Step 2 is import the .m4v file into iMovie.
Step 3 is to 'clip' plays in iMovie and export as .m4v files. I prefer the "real-time","real-time", "slow motion" format.
Step 4 is to upload to the web. I upload to Dropbox and share files there via Facebook with local officials. JetMetFan and APG share by uploading to YouTube.

I'm no wiz at it, but its pretty straightforward.

It should be noted that these steps are for Apple users but the general steps are the same.

I rip files into .mp4 files rather than .m4v files. If you're using YouTube to upload your games, I think it's better to use .mp4 as I believe they transcode it to that format anyhow. Also, instead of using iMovie, I used Windows Movie Maker.

I use Pinnacle Studio 16. Same idea, though I don't get the games from DVDs. I have to download from the sites which is what causes the delay 99% of the time. Either the download stops or the quality is lousy. But it gets there eventually!
