Illegal number and penalty question?
 

I normally can find this stuff quickly but for some reason I cannot.

There was a game recently that was brought to my attention where this took place.

A team had a number 7 and 8 and they played and then noticed. Is this a technical foul if they were playing with an illegal number? Or is this a situation where they just do not play with those illegal numbers? BTW, when noticed the players were removed from the game and did not play.

I need a rules reference.

What team came with illegal jerseys? And, why wasn't it caught earlier in the season?

It was just numbers, not illegal jersey necessarily. And I am not telling, they lost. ;)

It amazes me the stuff that slides by all year. I was doing a game the other night at a AA school (highest in MT) and there was only a coaches box on the visitor side. I called the pool admin so they could call the state and I was told, no point in calling this late. :eek:

I had a game at a Christmas ( I mean Holiday, no wait, winter ) tourney, A girl had number 03. Since it was a Christmas ( I mean Holiday, no wait Winter ) Tourney, I passed on the T but I wondered if she got any all year long during the season.

My interpreter followed my game and asked why I didn't call the T. I explain, the following night, he had a player with number on the back, but not on the front. He too passed on the T for the uniform....

3-4-3-D: The following numbers are legal: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 00, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55. A team member list shall not have both numbers 0 and 00.

So either, but not both, 0 and 00 are legal, but 03 is illegal? Weird? Weird for the manufacturer to produce such a uniform.

How many seconds are left in the period when the scoreboard reads "1:03"? Aren't numbers, and numerals fun? Thank God that we're not using Roman numerals, except those officials, the ones that we're always talking about on the Forum, that are officiating in Rome. Rome must have lots of basketball officials. Roman Forum? I didn't do that on purpose, it just came out.
