Goal Tending or no?

Had a coworker ask me about a play he saw. A1 going up for a dunk, B1 gets his hand on the ball. A1 forces the ball down into the basket far enough that B1's hand and part of the ball pass through the rim, as B1's wrist is hyperextended. Ball comes back out. Is this goal tending or not?

No. It's the exception under basket interference.

if a player has his/her hand legally in contact with the ball, it is not a violation if such contact with the ball continues after it enters a basket cylinder or if in such action, the player touches the basket.

DOG warning?

I was under the impression that this was only for the offensive player and had never thought about it covering the defensive player. what is the rules reference? i don't have my books. Thanks. and disregard the DOG warning in the title, that is for another thread.

It's NFHS Rule 4-6, Exception to Arts. 1 and 2. Remember, the wording only says "player," not "offensive player."

Great thread. Thanks for sharing. I really miss ChuckElias, and I'm looking forward to his annual off topic baseball thread. I'll be interested in his take on the Red Sox's third manager in three seasons. I can't wait to tell ChuckElias that Bobby Valentine was just named the athletic director of Sacred Heart University, here in the Constitution State. Maybe we'll catch a glimpse of Bobby wearing his Groucho glasses.

I picked out several classic lines:

Camron Rust:
The popcorn guy?

Jurassic Referee:
Gotta go with what's written.
Any special reason for doing that?
It's in there for a reason.
Or nuthin'? You have a warped l'il mind, Slappy.
Ergo.

Dan_ref:
Who cares where it happens.

ChuckElias:
Whoa, whoa, whoa, there Tex!!
Suppose I said, "Dan and Woody may each have a piece of fruit, and Woody may have an orange." By your interpretation, you'd have to conclude that Dan's not allowed to have an orange. But really, that doesn't follow at all. All I've said is that you can each have some fruit, and I've clarified that you're allowed to eat the orange.

BktBallRef:
Just as obvious: you are alone in the universe!
