Apparently it is idiot week around here (in the intramural league)...

Player is upset about a no call, fists clenched at his side, jaw tightened, glaring across the court at the official (me) and says "supid motherf---ing idiot" loud enough that I hear it. :eek:

Whack!, see ya later...

Anyone who wouldn't ship him on that one? His team was just amazed that I would do that, I was amazed at the stupidity...

IM game? See ya! You don't get paid enough to tolerate that crap.

I'd say that's about as clear-cut as a T gets :D

Good call. Yes, that was worthy of an ejection with one T.

Hold on to your horses. Forum members had a thread a few months ago on what level of profanity some of us would pass on, and what level of profanity others wouldn't. It's a wide ranging spectrum, far from clear-cut.

Remember the discussion.....

Clear cut for you. Clear cut for me. But, maybe, not clear cut for other Forum members. I tried to search for the thread, but was unsuccessful. Maybe others will have more success. I believe that it was the thread in which I made the egregious mistake of calling the northeastern part of Illinois, "Northeastern Illinois", thus offending the millions of fine people who live in the northeastern part of the "Land of Lincoln". Peace.

It's not the words, Billy. It's the words along with the fact they're directed AT THE OFFICIAL. I'd say the ejection is 75% personal comment and 25% the actual words that he used.

And 10% body language.

That's right, this one was 110% deserved.

I really like Garretson's confidence in that situation. He was level headed and matter of fact, yet firm. The way he spoke to Steve Smith was great. Smith pushed the issue at first, but accepted the explanation and moved on.

I don't know that I would toss him for that, but it sure would be a T and I would seriously consider tossing him, depending on how he has acted prior to that. If he had been fine, then exploded with that one, I'm likely just giving him a T. If this was the latest in a string of poor sportsmanship, boom your gone, have a nice day and don't let the door hit you in the A$$ on the way out.

Part of the issue is not just profanity... It's the 3 P's:

Profane
Prolonged
Personal.

This one is T-worthy for the 3rd P alone. And probably ejectable on most people's radars for the 1st one as well.

Most of the "I'll let it go" profanity talk was wrt comments not made directly at an official. And that's a big difference.

He's gone in my book. He's not going to have anything worthwhile to contribute to the rest of the game anyway.

We all have our different "triggers", but from my perspective, this isn't even close, whether rec league, high school, or college. If a player uses that sort of profanity and it is directed at me, he is done. "Whack, Get Out". I love it.

I have a great deal of difficulty believing anybody here would allow "stupid motherf**king idiot" to pass.

Some officials have a different level of tolerance than others. As for me, the only time I'm giving a pass on f*** is if it's screamed by a player on the floor with a compound fracture, or something similar. Other officials might not have a big problem with f*** depending on the context.

I thought your take here was funny, but I think you're misrepresenting what he said. This was directed at the official, I'm pretty sure that's an easy T even for him. Whether he'd go flagrant is another question.

It is ALWAYS idiot week around there. (Wreck/IM in general, not just your league).

Flagrant T in any campus rec IM game with an administrator who has any idea what they're doing. (Am, and do, so I get to be critical.) Out of curiosity, what was he so upset about?

Was flying at the goal out of control, attempted a circus shot and lost control of the ball, OOB off his knee. Player claimed he was bumped as he shot (and I use that term loosely) the ball. Apparently he was the only one on the court who did not realize it was his own teammate (the only person even within reach) who hit him, and was none too happy to have that little fact explained to him.

Clear-Cut ???
 

Another question? "That's about as clear-cut as a" flagrant gets?

Note: Is anything that is discussed on The Forum in more than ten posts really clear-cut? That's my point.
