Is it possible it was a dead ball contact technical foul?

Did #11 come off the bench? If #32 was too injured to shoot the free throws then his coach can designate a shooter on an FF1. And #32 would not be required by rule to leave the game. Also, without having seen the play any chance the ball was dead when contact occurred?

Live ball, kick came from the airborne ISU rebounder, no foul called at the time.

A few seconds later, a foul on WSU was called, WSU's coach requested a look at the monitor on the kick.

ISU shot two freebies for the personal, WSU shot two for the FF1--then inbound nearest spot of foul.

#11 was in the game during the fouls--I guess I'm not 100% certain that #32 didn't go to the bench after he took the foot--but too injured to shoot his free throws would have been a huge stretch.

Cluster.

How is this not a FF2? Looks intentional to me watching the video.

I was wondering that myself. The first time I watched at real speed it appeared the rebounder looked at his opponent before kicking out. Slo-mo confirmed it for me.

Yes, 32 should have been the shooter. Could be the officials got the wrong guy or that 32 was hurt. If the latter, doesnt really matter if you think the kid isnt hurt that badly, if they tell you he is hurt, than he is hurt. We dont get paid enough money to make medical decisions in addition to officiating the game.

That action would have to be considered "fighting" according to the NFHS, no?

In NCAA-M, when a FF1 or FF2 occurs and the fouled player is injured, then the players own coach can select any player to shoot the penalty FT's.

In this play, 1 of 2 things happened:
1) WSU #32 was injured as a result of getting kicked in the chest and face; so the WSU coach selected #11 to shoot the FT's. (btw - he didn't look injured to me as he ran down court and defended the next possession.)
2) The officials put an incorrect shooter - #11 - at the line for 2 FT's.

That crew of David Hall (several Final Fours), Gerry Pollard (several Regional Finals and Semi's), and Paul Janssen (NCAA tourney official as well) would NOT make a mistake of putting the wrong shooter at the line (I suppose it could happen....just don't believe it did).

Although I'm guessing, I would say the WSU coach said that #32 (Tekele Cotton - 58.6% FT) was injured and could not shoot, so he selected #11 (Cleanthony Early - 80.5% FT) to shoot. Who says that "coaches don't know the rules?".....

btw....it wasn't the officials that cost ISU the game; after the FF1 - I'd say the made 3 by WSU, then the ISU turnover, then the made 3 by WSU w/ :06 left in the game is what won it for WSU.

Being that this is NCAAM, if the kid that had been fouled was declared injured to the point he couldn't shoot, then the opposing coach should have been allowed to pick the FT shooter from the remaining players left on the floor (unless there was blood). I doubt Ill St would have put on of WSU's best players on the line (I have no clue what kind of FT shooter Early, the player who shot is). I think WSU pulled a fast one swapping shooters and I say that as a WSU fan.

This was a pretty experienced crew also. Happens to the best of them, even with video I suppose.

Edit: I stand corrected. I forgot that on flagrant fouls that the offended coach can select his own shooter.
