VHSL "uniforms"

Pics of new REQUIRED gear are up on the VHSL web site. I wonder how big the "contribution" CK made to VHSL was for us to have to buy all the new "stuff"?

Raymond Sat Feb 16, 2013 08:26pm

Not mandatory until 2014-15, right?

DRJ1960 Sat Feb 16, 2013 08:31pm

Correct...but Butt ugly

BktBallRef Sat Feb 16, 2013 08:44pm

Yep, that's hideous.

Hope this does not insult the clowns out there but these look like clown outfits

grunewar Sat Feb 16, 2013 10:16pm

We were informed about it at an Association Meeting earlier this year. It was put out as optional for 13-14 and mandatory for 14-15. If one of the crew would wear it next year, we all had to have it.

By the way, at first view ......blech!

No crew I work on will be wearing it next year b/c I'm not getting it until it's mandatory. And unless Cliff Keen is cheaper than where I currently buy my shirts, I won't be getting any shirts with intergrated patches.

Camron Rust Sat Feb 16, 2013 11:52pm

Why?

Mark T. DeNucci, Sr. Sun Feb 17, 2013 10:53am

And yet most the StateHSAA won't let us wear gray.

I feel your pain. We have to wear IAABO patched shirts. There is only one way to get them now that they don't sell the patch separately:

Honig's.

VHSL email

Replied with a very polite request to "re-evaluate" the design of the shirt.:p

zm1283 Mon Feb 18, 2013 05:34pm

That is hideous, although I'm of the opinion that any black/white striped shirt is hideous. I would much rather wear the NBA shirts (New or old) or the gray shirts with black pinstripes.

I agree on both points...the new shirt doesn't look any worse than the current black and white IMO (which I only think looks good with wider stripes a la NCAA football/NFL).

Just got the "official memo" from the state association.

And our local association is also talking about changing our jackets in the near future - sigh. Guess that's the price you have to pay for "the big time." :o

Ugly!!!!

Check the VHSL website....you'll find your new jacket....

I worked a Regional game tonight with our board Secretary and our association is not going to the VHSL jacket. We will continue to wear one with our Association logo.

Grunewar was referring to discussions about redesigning that logo and thus making new jackets necessary.

As for the new shirt- I don't see what's so ugly about it. I prefer the black and grey NBA style shirt but don't see how the rendering on the VHSL website is that much different from the NCAA side panel shirts.

Maybe the more infrequent, wider stripes won't be as slimming for me?! :p

Rich Tue Feb 19, 2013 09:24am

I'm amused at these threads only because I live in a state where we'll be wearing the black and white stripes 20 years after everyone else has moved on to something else. I'm surprised we're not still wearing Byron collars (and I still see the occasional freshman / JV ref wearing one, BTW).

For example, we *still* are forbidden to wear black shirts in baseball and it took the entire state of officials ignoring the guy in charge before he relented and allowed black pants for every football game.

Lol. Remember I've met you. You have no need for "slimming" features.

APG Sun Mar 10, 2013 06:03pm

Just saw the new shirt in person today...I actually like it better then the current stripes. Wider stripes look better IMO then what is then the current width of the stripes. The side panel is not nearly as big as shown in the picture.

We have been using grays for about 5 years. I hate them. There is absolutely NO advantage to wearing them. It is harder to identify partners on the floor because they don't stand out among players. Now the trend is to wear grays with black side panels. There seems to be no end to the gimmicks and trends manufacturers come up with and we buy into it.

Simple black stripes..stand out among a crowd of players and simple to manufacture.

That is pretty ugly logo ... although I am looking forward to the integrated patches. Of course that is assuming the cost isn't marked way up because the patch is built in.

Hate the gray shirt. If you sweat at all, it shows through. But I do like the gray with the black side panel better than the plain gray pinstripe.

Talked to our state guy over the weekend. It says CK has been pounding on him to buy their new shirts for football and basketball.

We have to get Honig's shirts now, too. One other supplier. So, all of my Officials Choice shirts, which are of much better quality, are now rendered useless.

I like it. Reminds me of the NFL shirts.

It's reminds of a cross between NCAA football shirts with the stripes, and NCAA basketball with the side panel.

Grun -you do live in Fairfax County and it is pretty liberal out there !!!!

Now further out 66 it becomes rather conservative and no cross dressing would be allowed !!!!!

Yep, so you have to pay shipping & handling which makes up for the promo code discount.

I ordered one just to keep in my bag. Plus I plan on working the state tourney next season.

I'll reserve judgment until I actually see them ON an official.

I wear the wide stripes for college football and I think it's a huge improvement over the 1" stripes, so I'm guessing this won't bother me that much.

That's what it looked like to me when I saw it worn...and I definitely agree that the NCAA wide stripes in football look so much better than the 1" variety.

I didn't know you actually someone wearing it. Where was this? Were they just modeling it so folks could see what it looked like?

Here's betting the new Virginia shirts don't have a Nike swoosh on them:D

Remember in 1st grade when you got those big fat pencils because your hands supposedly couldn't handle a regular sized pencil? It's like that.

I liked the big fat crayons. They were delicious. Good way to cleanse the palate after eating paste.

Eh, it's no big deal. It was just not consistent with the weight I'm trying to lose and the shape I'm trying to be in. I had put some of the weight I lost 4 years ago back on and I decided to work hard to lose that.
