What about NCAA 4-66-1?
Dan, I'm kinda slow on the uptake this morning. 4-66-1 says, "A try for field goal is an attempt by a player to score two or three points by throwing or tapping the ball ito his or her basket".

Mark's citations specifically say that a player's position is determined by where he last touched the floor. How does the above rule apply to the question?
Question: If a player jumps from beyond the 3 pt line & dunks is it 2 or 3 points?

Answer: A succesful try from beyond the 3 point line shall count 3 points for the team into whos basket the ball is thrown or directed (NCAA 5-1-2). You've given us the definition of a try which states "throwing or tapping". A dunk is when a player "...drives, forces or stuffs..." the ball through the basket (NCAA 4-19). So...is a dunk the same as "directing" the ball? If not then the answer to the question is 2 points, not 3.

Make sense?
Dan - NCAA 4-66-4 says "A dunk attempt is a try."
Damn. Oh well, there goes a good discussion....
