A Super Bowl Like Occurence
8th grade girls tonight in Washington state. Team A puts up a three, and while the ball is in midair, the power in the gym goes out. All the lights and scoreboard are gone, but we can see from the outside lighting that the ball goes through the hoop. Both coaches were friends, I gathered, and wanted to count the basket, so that's what we did. My question is though, is there an official ruling for this? I was prepared to count it since it was off the hand before the scoreboard went our, just like a buzzer beater.
And unlike in the big game, it only took us three minutes to get everything back on! |
Power outage doesn't cause the ball to be dead, especially not a try in flight.
Count the basket. |
Some fans might even think you called the entire game with the lights out!

A few yrs back I had a VG game where the home team wanted to have a "ole Chicago Bulls" type opening for their game - lights out, loud music, strobes, search lights, a few lasers, big intros, etc. Unfortunately, they had those old gym lights in their huge dome housings that took a good 10-15 minutes warm-up, and come on...... As me and my P's were standing at the table waiting for the gym to get light, the V coach, who knew he had the lessor of the two teams on that evening, asked me if we could start the game in the dark as the game might not look so bad?! :p
