Brain cramp...

An earlier post got me thinking about an illegal dribble question...

A1 dribbles downcourt and picks up dribble. B2 knocks it out of A1's hands. Can A1 track it down and dribble again?

The lack of replies will jar your memory. :)

What events end a player's dribble such that he can legally dribble again?

You realize that in this case the end of the dribble and what makes it legal to dribble again are two separate events.

In the book, I found the ways a dribble can end, but not when a dribble can begin.

You must call a lot of illegal dribbles if you don't know when a player can begin a dribble.

You know a player cannot begin a dribble after lifting his/her pivot foot. And you know a player cannot begin dribble if they jump in the air with the ball. What else are you looking for that will help you with your original scenario.

You didn't find when it can begin, because it can begin any time. What cannot begin any time is a second dribble.

Reminds me of a Meatloaf song. I love the Phil Rizzuto part.
