What an exciting play!

The ball came to rest on the back of the ring! Actually it wasn't that exciting but was the only thing that made the crowd ohh and ahh over in the 50-16 freshman girl's game. The 2 quarter B game wasn't any better at 25-1.

It was the first instance I have seen this year of the ball coming to rest on the ring.

Free throw? Try? From how far?

If there are more free throws to follow there is. If the ball is to become dead after the free throw there is.

12 footer from between the elbow and wing

Are you saying that sometimes a free throw isn't a try?

No arrow is what he was likely hinting about.

Ok, I can see that. But that's not what tjones was asking.

If nothing happens after the ball is shot (and ignoring airborne shooter and fouls on shooter issues) then:
1) A try from the field that gets lodged will always go to the arrow.
2) A FT try might not go to the arrow:
a) 1st of 2 FTs
b) FT for a technical or intentional personal or flagrant personal foul

I think that's what he meant. But, yes, a FT is a try.
