Play with good sportsmanship, ready to play on second horn.

As little as possible. And, try to say it in a way they haven't heard before.

I know they aren't listening, but here's what I use:

1) are your players properly equipped? (If I've noticed any issues with jewlery or whatever, I'll mention them to the proper coach now).

2) If you want a timeout, make sure you get my attention. Let me know right away if you want a 30 or 60-second timeout... if I get no signal, it will be a 60-second timeout. First horn ends the timeout, we want to be putting the ball in play at the second horn.

3) If you have a question, I'll answer it when I can.

4) Sportsmanship is the most important thing for us tonight. Good luck.

Captains: You know who your knuckleheads are, handle them so we don't have to.

Coaches: Good luck.

Our board covers areas where there are lot of French speakers, I could try that!

Check Your Local Listings ...

Players legally equipped? Know how to wear their uniforms properly? Practice good sportsmanship. That's all the NFHS requires, and that's all I say. No more. No less. Otherwise, when in Rome ...

"No fast breaks."

For girls, add: "...and nothing above the rim."

Where are my floor captains? Guys, if we're talking to you, we're trying to keep you out of trouble, so please listen. Don't talk to each other. If you have a problem, talk to us, and we'll listen, I promise. Keep the elbows in, because if you catch somebody above the shoulders, we have to go intentional (or "flagrant" in a college game). Have a good game.
