I thought I'd never see a double foul but while watching a game before one of my afternoon games today I saw it. And it was right on. sorry, just thought i'd share my wow moment with the rest of you. You dont see double fouls much.

In the entire summer league I just finished (HS girls), I did call one. The two post players had been banging each other at both ends of the court. I told both of them to knock it off at least three times. Finally, I called the double foul. Neither coach complained because they knew both players had been warned. In fact, one coach told me he thought that it should be called more often, but only after warnings. Of course in this league, it didn't mean much, since we weren't charging individual fouls.

Frankly, I hate calling them too, and only do so very rarely.

Doubles aren't too rare - I see at least a few per season (the doubles I generally call are double technicals). Not so rare as, say, a multiple foul.

Only newbies call those. http://www.deephousepage.com/smilies/newbie.gif

While the double foul is rare it is not scarce. It is an acceptiple method of dealing with rough play. It is not encouraged. You need to see the whole play and get the first offender, but if that is not possible, call the double. I got a film from when I called a double and there was definitely an instigator.

I've called 1 or 2 double fouls in my day but the call that is even more infrequent is a multiple foul. Has anyone ever called one of these?

There's no such thing. It's an urban myth.

Not true. They have been sighted in the wilds of Ohio. By IAABO Men on a Mission!

If you think multiple fouls are a weird call, maybe Juulie will regale us with the story about her partner (absolutely not me) who called a technical foul for intentionally leaving the court when a kid was just.....well, let her tell it - if she dares!

Believe me, it's a whopper! Of course, she doesn't have to mention names.http://www.deephousepage.com/smilies/tapedshut.gif

Mark -- It'll have to be you that does the regaling. I don't remember this at all!

Juulie - you told me this happened at camp (I think) and, of course, it concerned "ABC". ;)

Mark -- Ah, I see. I've been working on blocking some of that stuff from my memory.
