I get my partners' attention and give them the 'longhorns' signal and point towards the basket to which it applies.

Is that what we call the unapproved 1 and 1 signal, the longhorns signal? Have to remember that.

Do you point with the same hand and give the longhorn signal to the side to indicate the direction that will be shooting the bonus or to you use the other hand and traffic cop it?

That is what I do. Not a mechanic per say, just a communication tool.

Peace

In the same category as the pointing to the line to signify a 2 point try. The same guys that don't want you to communicate this way, are the ones who do not want you to shout guys out of the lane. Avoiding correctable error situations by communicating ahead of time or 'forgetting' who the shooter is because the ball was being taken OOB instead of to the line is for the betterment of the game IMO.

I get my partners' attention, give the "hook em horns" signal while saying "NEXT ONE" and pointing to the proper end of the floor.

I do the same on the ninth foul, except I use the index/middle fingers.

We don't have any schools in this area who don't put the fouls up on the board and I can only remember one time they've been wrong on the board in the area the last few years at the varsity level.

Either or...but there is no traffic copping. I keep the signals in front of my torso.

That is fine and I know several people who do that, I just hate it when someone does this prior to the 1st attempt on a shooting foul which was the teams 6th of the half. Very confusing. It makes me unsure if the partner is trying to tell me that this is a 1-and-1, if he is asking me if this is a 1-and-1, or communicating about the next foul by this team. There is nothing wrong with a little extra communication, but for heaven's sake, pick a better time to do it!

Good to know. I will do that the next time we have a game together.

That's why I do it with verbal communication as well. "Next one" loud enough for my partners to hear.

You will never see a "Hook 'em Horns" sign out of me, but then again, I'm a USC man.

Seriously, always communicate it orally at dead ball.
