Mechanics on foul shot air ball
 

When a foul shot is an air ball, wait until it is obvious that it will not be successful before sounding the whistle.

This official waits until it is below the level of the ring before sounding his whistle. Good mechanic!

It is obvious it will not be successful long before it gets below the rim. Those are two independent ways a FT can end (obvious miss vs. below the rim).

My whistle would be much later than that. I'd need the second to get over the shock.

I'd need an hour to get over this. I mean its a college game. Is this guy Dwight Howard's free throw coach?

Almost looks like the shooter intentionally missed the free throw. I have one of the worst looking shots that I have ever seen and even I cannot do that poorly.

In our 10U Rec League the players can shoot from about a foot inside the foul line......and I haven't seen a shot THAT bad!
