Delay at Beginning of Game
 

Team huddles after introductions and anthem. Doesn't respond to "let's go red" or whistles. What are our options?

1) Keep cajoling.
2) T


3) "Resumption of play"?
4) Charge a TO?
5) ?

Are you going to place the ball in the center circle? :D

5-4-1 states that the referee shall forfeit the game if a team refuses to play after being instructed to do so by any official. That would have to be the last resort, but could be used as a "threat".

Nothing (officially) for one minute...

However, encouraging them to come out is probably what I'd do...up to that 1 minute.

A team shall not:

Allow the game to develop into an actionless contest, this includes the following and similar acts:

a. When the clock is not running consuming a full minute through not being ready when it is time to start either half.

I think you give them a stern look and tone and get them out there. ;)

Be proactive. Next time it happens, have all three officials gather in the circle, join hands and sing "Kum ba yah"... that'll get them out there.

It's a T if you let it get that far, as others have pointed out. I just walk into the huddle blowing my whistle. Honestly, it works.

Thanks. We did eventually get them out (just before I was going to mention the consequences to the coach).

We can use ROP for other quarters; I wonder if we should be able to do something similar for the first quarter.

The other coach wanted me to charge a TO. I told him that I would support such a rules change. ;)
