When We're Out Together Dancing Cheek To Cheek ...

Girls varsity scrimmage this morning. A1 has a frontcourt throwin from under her own basket (the one that Team A is shooting into). They use the play that we've all seen before (mostly in girls games, for some odd reason) where A2, A3, A4, and A5 line up across the free throw line and three players set up a screen for A5 to get open at the top of the key for a wide open three pointer. A1 makes the throwin as a lob pass back to where A5 is supposed to be, except A5 has tripped over one of her teammate's feet, and is already falling back, and down, as the pass is on the way. A5 catches the ball while sitting down, and sliding backward, on the floor, and continues to slide about two, or three, feet before passing the ball to a teammate. I'm the trail, this happens right in front of me, and I've got nothing.

Guess what the parents in the stands wanted?

Wouldn't it be great at that moment to be able to stop play and turn to the stands to give a quick rules lesson. But then on second thought I'm sure there would still be doubters.

"But she moved her pivot cheek."

We are going to have a million posts if we post every time parents don't know a rule.

I'm always screwing up who's basket is who's, especially since other sports, and I believe some other basketball rule sets, seem to do it differently. That why I added the qualifier, "the one that Team A is shooting into". Did I screw this up in my original post? Damn. There goes my chance at ever becoming an esteemed Forum member.

While I certainly knew what you meant, I was referring to the terminology, "under the basket," which we all know was meant to be "along the endline."

You will always be an esteemed member to me! ;)

You mean, "along the baseline"?

Scrimmages are often more like preseason games. In Iowa, we called them jamborees.
