Just do away with the lanyard all together!

Get a PTS compatible lanyard, just in case, while you are at it.

I'm sure PTS will be implemented into HS next year, I'll be sure to go ahead and get one now.

I suppose I'll splurge and get both lanyard types and try them. I may even come to prefer one of them.

I use a smitty, and have a backup noose in my pocket.

I use just the whistle.

Once in awhile I break out the Mike Mathis mechanics.

I tried the noose but there were too many coaches that wanted to use it, .

But really, I prefer the breakaway.

If any deity cared, then they wouldn't have made a whistle work without a lanyard.
