For IAABO Members's Eyes Only ...

IAABO took the "Not Closely Guarded" signal off their signal chart this year. Had my first game of the season today, a "junior varsity" Catholic middle school game. Used the signal four times in two games. It took me a few years to get used to using the signal. I hope that it isn't going to take me a few years to get used to not using the signal.

I'm not IAABO...but, by taking "the signal off their signal chart" does that mean that you CAN NOT use the signal at all, or that you ARE NOT REQUIRED to use the "closely guarded" signal?

Our local interpreter told us not to use it anymore.

Just what part of "For IAABO Members' Eyes Only" did you not understand? Don't ever apply for a job at MI6.

We don't use that signal here, anyway. As we're taught, if they're not closely guarded, just don't signal.

Don't get the thinking behind taking away a signal that gives additional information...its use can only help an official.

Excpet that not signalling can also mean "official isn't looking" or "official forgets to do his job" or "official applies NCAAW rules to HS game".

IMO, NCAAW has the right attitude on this. (Can't speak for men's.) Useful tools are useful when used properly.

The signal is in both codes. And I believe it came from the Men's side first BTW. Remember NCAAW are trying to be like the NBA, and they do not have such a signal.

Peace

And that is why getting rid of the signal is silly. The signal tells everyone what you are doing and why you do not have a count.

Peace

I'm referring to the NCAAW printed accepted practice and ability of using additional signals to help explain/sell calls and no-calls.

#1, any chance to ridicule the IAABO can't be ignored.

#2, it's MI6, not M16.

Warning. This thread is about to be hijacked. Please remain calm, and stay in your seats.
