Technical to End First Half

As time runs out in the first half, A1 is issued a technical foul for yelling obscenities at an official because he felt he was fouled. B1 shoots and makes the free throws, and both teams retire to the locker rooms. To begin the second half, the AP arrow favors team B.

Now here is the question, does team B get the ball to begin the second half because of AP and so the arrow switches after the throw-in to team A, or does team B get the ball as a punitive measure from the technical foul, and therefore the AP arrow stays with team B after the throw-in?

It would seem to me that Case 10.4.1 B covers this, even though it specifies during intermission and my situation was technically simultaneous with the conclusion of the first half and the whistle was blown prior to the horn. Last night however, my belief was in the minority of the crew.

Is this correct or are the few seconds between end of first half and halftime so critical as to change the outcome?

5-6-2 Excp 3, sentences 2 and 3.

So then under 5-6-2 Excp. 4, the free throws would be administered and the look to the AP arrow to determine possession rather than the team that just shot the technical free throws, because the penalty does not carry over?

And just out of curiosity, why is this the case? If the official had held his whistle for another second or two until after the horn to blow the tech so it was technically during intermission (the player's berating of the official began prior to the horn and continued after the horn) team B would have gotten the shots and the ball and maintained AP, but because he blew it prior to or simultaneous with the horn, team B does not get the full benefit provided by the penalty.

What's significant is when you deem the infraction had occurred, not when you blew the whistle. If it happened prior to the buzzer sounding to end the
quarter, it happened before the quarter ended, regardless of when you blow your whistle.

Because the penalty for the T is possession now. But since there's no time left they don't get the penalty. Similarly if time expires at roughly the same moment the ball goes out of bounds, the penalty doesn't amount to much. Or if a player travels as time expires. Etc.

There's no such thing as simultaneous. You have to decide did the T occur before the end of the period and or after the period is over. That determines how you administer it.
