Is this sequence legal?

I see this sometimes during halfcourt games , where a player would track down a defensive rebound and then clear the ball out past the 3pt line by tapping/moving/pushing the ball with his chest so he can set himself with the tripple threat position once the ball has been cleared out.

So the sequence goes like this:

1. Player pushes def rebound past out the 3pt line with chest (or sometimes with a headbutt).
2. Once ball is past 3pt line, player grabs ball with hands.
3. Player starts dribbling with hand.

I believe this should be a double dribble because player begins to dribble when he taps/moves/pushes ball to the floor with chest and then grabs ball with hands and dribbles again.

1. Never seen this.

2. Nothing illegal about it.

I have a hard time envisioning a time where I would ever consider a tap with the chest to be the beginning of a dribble. One would have to consider that act to the beginning of player control and consquently, grant a timeout if one was requested. I'm not doing so in this situation and as such, I have nothing.

If someone allows all that action without attempting to take the ball away, then more power to them. Otherwise, I cannot imagine this happening without someone going after the ball.

Nothing I read was illegal.

Peace

First, a dribble is only started when it involves the hands.

Second, even if a player did the above action with their hands (batting a rebound away from other players, then catching it, then dribbling it) it would still be legal.

How does 4-Dribble say a dribble starts?
