Flop or no? (Video)

What do you have on this one? I don't mind a defender embelishing a little, but the line between embelishment and flop is blurry sometimes.

Hard to say honestly. You do have a defender that is trying to go somewhere he cannot go. There is contact and I have no problem with the call.

It seems to me that the ball handler bangs the defender once, then bangs him a second time...pretty easy PC call, I think. Whether the defender embellishes it or not, the ball handler is not allowed to displace a legal defender like that.

In addition to what others have said, Anthony swings his right arm (not much) out of his verticle plane & contacts the defender in his legally obtained position.

Did the defender embelish? Absolutely!
But the call shouldnt go against him just because of that.

I wouldn't call it a flop...more like an exageration. The offensive player set himself up for the PC foul by repeatedly bumping the defender's torso. A fine piece of theater, but I have no problem with the call at all.

The offensive player did create what contact there was but that contact did not displace the defender. The defender displaced himself. I'd say that is a flop. The defender was awarded for falling down....not for being knocked down. Not the best call IMO.

While I can see why an offensive foul was called, I'm leaning toward a no call. That defender sets himself up to go down no matter how much contact there was on the play. As is, I don't have the post player going to and through the defender.

I'd would have also liked to have seen a replay from the beginning with Davis putting the ball on the floor. It appears that the defender may have bumped Davis into a travel, but it's impossible to tell from that angle.

I don't know, looks to me from this angle that the player got tired of being hit and decided to allow himself to be run over. He's not required to exert herculean efforts to hold his position.

I totally agree. I think he just did not try to hold his spot anymore and got run over more than anything. Did he embellish? Probably a little but it is not like AD is a small guy either.

Peace

It looks like a flop to me, but the camera has the wrong angle. The official had the perfect angle, so I am going to trust his call. He had good position.

JetMetFan Sat Sep 15, 2012 03:43pm

I'm in the camp of did he embellish? Yes, but he doesn't have to allow himself to be bumped backwards forever, either. No problem with the PC.
