Philadelphia 76ers v. Boston Celtics: KG Illegal Screen
End of game situation with about 10 seconds...Michael Smith, at the slot, calls an illegal screen on Kevin Garnett. Guess he didn't get the memo that stars aren't suppose to have calls go against them at the end of games. ;)

Kenny "that's not a foul, because when he set the screen, his feet were set."
Absolutely idiotic |
Does this need blue font?
Yep the NBA is decided by Stern before the games are played. ;)
Peace |
Illegal screen and holding, both in the same play.
|
I guess the officials did not allow the players to decide the game. :D
Peace |
"It's like rolling through a stop sign. You don't usually get a ticket for that."
Kenny Smith "Credit that call to coach Collins, who has been working the refs......" Chris Webber "Kevin was not the only one moving in picks, but he was the only one that got called......" Doc Rivers "I thought in that situation you let the players decide the game." Kevin Garnett  |
Was there a local broadcast?
I can't imagine how Heinsohn sounded on that one. I can't imagine working in New England when they learn the rules from that clown.
|
I love the high overhead look.

Agree!

Had a mom (coaches too) tell me last night.....she had a "bad call" in her game last week with 5 secs left where the REF decided the game on a foul. She advocated swallowing the whistle. I walked away..... |

"And this is what you mean working the refs, he didn't really...eh...uh...."
Love it. Please try and find a way that is not a foul. It'd be a great block on the gridiron. |

I'm a Celts fan, but come on KG...you might get away with that somewhere on the court OTHER THAN RIGHT IN FRONT OF AN OFFICIAL. As a wise veteran, you'd think he'd know how to camoflage that move a little better. |

Oops. Sorry - forgot the blue font on the above paragraph. I almost had to pull off the road to puke as I was listening to him. Couldn't get the radio station changed fast enough... |

I heard Mke and Mike talking about this on the way to work, and couldn't wait to take a look at the play. They, of course, made it sound like a weak call. While I would agree with the "let it slide" theory if it is a borderline call, you HAVE to call THAT foul. He may have even gotten away with a little body lean, but when he extended the arms to hold the guy, forgetaboutit.

Definitely an illegal screen, and I look forward to NBE officials consistently calling this and other fouls in other games. Too much to ask for?
My impression was that there were more offensive fouls called in this game relative to other NBE contests. |

I guess it just depends on your perspective ;) |

It's extremely frustrating that this call is getting any attention. It was absolutely the correct call. Plain as day. That wasn't even close to a screen. It freed up Pierce, so clearly there was a huge advantage. And it was right in front of Smith. Easy call.

So, what's the general motivation behind this grumbling? (Besides "ignorance." That's too easy.) Is it "officials shouldn't determine the outcome of the game," or "a foul in the last minute is different than the rest of the game", or "these guys think they're the show," or something else? |

Personal accountability...in sports (or life) is almost a thing of the past. Going back to the original clip...can you imagine what would happen if KG or Doc said "They got it right. I was trying to get Pierce free and had to set that screen. It was overly agressive, but I had to make it work. Unfortunately it was in front of an official and he got me on it. Sometimes I can slip one by...sometimes not." Instead...it's the official's fault. KG is the victim, Doc Rivers is the victim...the Celtics are the victim. They got shafted. |
