Seniority?

Not that it's that big of a deal, but I'm just curious who has been posting on this board (basketball, not one of the other ones) for the longest period of time.

Maybe we should give some kind of trophy to whoever it is, like a statue of Billy Packer. :p

Aside from the owner of the site (who was #1 on Aug 06, 1999), Mark Padgett is the next that is still active...at #13 (Aug 08, 1999). There were a few before him with a handful of posts but they've been gone a long time. This site went live that date and several people joined in on that date (about 25)....its presence was announced on another forum that was quite dated (McGriff's) and several joined right away.

I am at #16 (Aug 08, 1999...apparently a bit after Mark).

Also the dates that people joined is deceiving because there was a time when this site crashed and lost postings from people very early on as well. I do not know who was necessarily first, but I know I was here near the very beginning and guys like JR, BKref and Mark Padgett were here either before or around the same time. As state McGriffs was the first site that most of the early people frequented and we soon moved over here as there was some control over the content and it was a counter to Referee Magazine on some level as well. Maybe Brad can give a little more background, but I believe this forum started around 1997.

Peace

I don't remember it crashing ... maybe I couldn't convert the old postings when I moved to the new software. Of course, that was 12-13 years ago, so not sure how good my memory is on the subject!!

I registered the Officiating.com domain back in 1995-96 and posted a bunch of officiating-related articles ... 1997 sounds about right for when the forum started.

And, yeah, I was first :D

When Do I Get My Esteemed Member Ring ???

I'm just a newbie. I would have joined earlier, but Jurassic Referee scared the heck out of me.

You are right (of course you are) that it was not a crash it was a conversion to new software. I just remember we had to re-register and what we had posted was gone. I do believe I was introduced to the site by the guy that got me into officiating in the summer or fall of 1997 for the first time.

Peace

If you do a search, it appears the first poster was a guy named Kelvin Green, followed by Padgett then Camron. Of course, I'm just a novice at this so I could be wrong.

I went looking through some old files and remembered what happened ... the service that we were hosting with had a fire and everything was lost (sometime in 1999)!! Worse ... I didn't have any backups!

What can I say? I was a newbie! :) ... Trust me that we have multiple backups on and offsite now!!

That's good news. It would be a real tragedy if you lost all those posts debating the advantages, and disadvantages, of Smitty lanyards versus noose lanyards. Now we won't be losing any sleep worrying about losing such historically significant posts.
