Referee Survey
Referee Treatment
Hi my name is Blake Jones. I’m a student of Yea High School in Victoria and I’m doing a project on basketball refereeing and I’m finding out ways people treat referees in different sports. I am a basketball referee myself so I know the basics but I would appreciate you guys being able to help me out. I’m hoping you guys could answer these simple questions so I can learn more about what you have to handle in a higher level of refereeing or umpiring. These answers will be greatly appreciated. 1. How do you normally feel while refereeing? Very anxious Anxious Nervous Calm Relaxed Very Relaxed 2. How often do coaches yell at you? Every game Some games Few games Rarely Never 3. How often do you get abused by players? Every game Some games Few games Rarely Never 4. How often do you have to tech a player off the court? Every game Some games Few games Rarely Never 5. How often do you have to eject a coach from the court? Every game Some games Few games Rarely Never How would you describe referee treatment in your games? 100 word max. |

I'd tighten up those questions a bit...reason being is they are pretty vague. During a given game your going to take 'abuse' from any number of participants or coaches/players...it comes with the territory.
I think these questions are too broad for your purposes and probably won't help with any indepth research. For example I'd do something like this: Are the parents/fans/coaches worse at a high school game or recreational/aau game? Why (from a ref perspective) do you think this is? What level do you have the least issues with coaches/fans/players etc? Your best question is your first one, however any ref working a high level of basketball is going to say either calm, relaxed or really relaxed as he/she has been doing that for awhile and if a ref is very anxious/tense etc it'll show pretty easily on the court.... Just my two cents. |
