Our board officiates a ladies leauge that uses FIBA rules, as everthing else we do is NF rules, and i can't get a FIBA rule book by the time of the game.
Can anyone sum up the differences between the NF rules and the FIBA rules Thanks for any Help |

thanks

Here's the 5 main differences
The FEEBLE lane looks like is was designed by a 3 year old trying to draw a rectangle.
A player may not play under FEEBLE rules if he has any vowels in his name. In FEEBLE arenas, the score is kept with a metric abacus. FEEBLE coaches are decended from European howler monkeys. French based teams don't lose - they surrender. |
That's Funny

How is everyone? I have been very busy - and have pretty much taken 12 months off refereeing, hence not being on the board. But I will try to drop in every now and again, or if anyone specifically wants to say Hi or ask a FEEBLE question email me - [email protected] (please don't spam me!) G'day from Down Under - Duane |
Hey nuuff with dissing the FIBA comp... it is the world comp rules after all .... plus they make sense ...
you guys just like to make things confusing and difficult, and rules that you don't have to know are really rules about rules that then relate to other rules that again may, but only at particular times, be used when those other rules are not, but if you don't know the rules go home!! FIBA rules are world rules and everyone( but you yanks ;)) play by them ... and understand them ... backup !! Respekt to da world community bruvvas :) |

Hey, partner, it's an American game, whether you like it or not. We could give a flip about FIBA. Nobody here plays by there rules, so you'll find little sympathy here. |

take it easy man...it's look like you are going to kill some fiba members.."Like it or not, Americans don't care for FIBA rules. ..." like it or not ,you shouldn't speak like that..it's sound bad |

They could not even sell out the arena in Indiana, when the World Championships where there. No one here really cares about FIBA Rules. Just a fact of life. Just like I am sure the world cares little about Major League Soccer in America. Peace |

You're not from here, therefore, you don't understand what the thinking is here. I'm not from your country, so I don't make remarks about what things should or should not be like in your country. Do you know who won the Super Bowl last year? Do you know what the Super Bowl is? Roger Clemens won his 300th game a few weeks ago. Do you know who Roger Clemens is? My guess is you may know little or nothing about these things, but that doesn't make it wrong. They happen but they're just not important to you. Well guess what? As Rut said, we don't care about FIBA or their rules. It's not basketball to us. [Edited by BktBallRef on Jul 5th, 2003 at 11:15 AM] |
"..... it's just a discussion, where differences in opinions exist."-so let me say whati want to say from my point of view.and no i didn't killed enyone till this day and i'm happy for that but if i must kill someone for my safty (amd my country safty)i will do so.there is many official here that officiat with the FIBA rules

The Olympics, which is another international organization, really has no choice but to use FIBA rules in competition, since the vast majority of participating nations use those rules. We understand that. But our feeling is that we resent some "foreigners" proposing that "their rules" are "better" than our rules, when we feel no one knows that game like we do. It's just our jingoism coming through. There's no real anger, only joking - like calling FIBA "FEEBLE". Let's not argue about something so trivial, my friend. NO MORE OF THIS: http://www.deephousepage.com/smilies/argue2.gif |

I think he misunderstand my point..but it's history.. god bless america(and her games)... i can see that after all mr.(jokes)BktBallRef deleted all his insulting posts..what a wise man. [Edited by ROMANO on Jul 5th, 2003 at 02:01 PM] |
The more things change.....
the more they stay the same.
Well, its been a while since I have been here regulary, but its nice to see that there are still a few FEEBLE refs here, fighting the good fight! A suggestion to all the other FEEBLE refs here - give up, you can't argue logically with these crazy yanks, just smile, nod and quitely mutter to yourself. In all honesty, I really miss the (mostly) good natured banter here, but due to a change in jobs, towns and going back to uni, I don't really have the time. CHUCK - yeah my site is still working, but my domain registration has been all screwed up. If anyone wants to check out the site it is at http://www.geocities.com/oz_referee and you can email me at [email protected] - but be warned, I don't check it all that often. I am hoping to get the site back up and running properly by the end of the year. Take care all, I will still call in every now and again to chuckle at the conversations on here, so keep it up!! |
i agree with you.
BUT ..but he want to make joke from my english..it's ok..he should respect all refrees in this forum. |

David, we're constantly correcting each other's grammar and spelling on this board. That's all of us. You can be corrected just as easily as anyone else. Don't be so sensitive, about English or FEEBLE. |
i think ya'll should get some common sense ... eat smaller portion size meals and listen to Dr Phil and Oprah ...
I'm telling you ... the way the world views Americans is not cool at the moment - and you should lose the arrogance ... America isn't the only place in the world ... and you should acknowledge and respect that ... Every ohter sport that has gone from the local form to the global stage seems to have done so in an orderly fashion, and people seem to be able to put aside their differences for the better of the global community - except you lot ... Enjoy basketball ... all forms ... and respect everyone and everything, this doesn't just apply to sport ... sheesh ... just wanted you all to open your minds a little - sorry it was too much to ask ... never mind ... i'll go back to the other 'Feeble' forums ... i take pride in saying that I am part of a truly world game ... there are only a few sports you can say that genuinley, and we should respect and welcome that :) - Isaak [Edited by Isaak on Jul 10th, 2003 at 12:35 PM] |

Isaak, the theme of your posts are valid, but there is a big difference between challenging the imperalism and ultra-right wing agenda of the Bush Administration, and just plain America-bashing. If you are from Israel, I think you and Romano should remember that if it wasn't for the US, you would all be saying "Yes, Master" to Yassar Arafat. America has much improving to do on the world stage, but they are still fundamentally good people. After all, they don't fly jet liners into buildings on purpose. Dan, your attitude is exactly what is at the root of America-bashing in the first place. You have a valid point about the US being an economic, political, and military saviour to many countries. Believe me, as Canadian, I am grateful to have you folks as neighbours. But what you have to also realize is that it's easy to give when you got the most. While there is no justification for 9-11 and the extremist Islamic movement, the US has itself to blame for much of its tarnished reputation. America has consistently picked and chosen its battles, and limited its benevolance to only those situations from which it can profit. If Iraq's main export were bananas instead of oil, Saddam Hussein would still be in power today. Although this week has revealed major US commitments to Africa, its reluctance, even outright refusal to address the plight of that continent over the last 20 years is the biggest crime of all. Dozens of regimes, all of them much worse than Iraq, have thrived there for decades, with little or no leadership shown by the US to bring them down. The poorest, sickest person on America's streets still lives like a king compared to someone in Ethiopia, Congo, or Rwanda. Don't forget that. With wealth and power comes responsibility. There is a balance to be struck between individual liberty, free market, and the sharing of resources to benefit the entire planet. America seems to thumb its nose at this. That is the problem. BTW, I am not some bleeding-heart liberal. Where I come from, people are so conservative they make you look like Ralph Nader. Just one man's opinion. And incidentally, I've reffed both FIBA and NCAA, and NCAA is way better. [Edited by canuckrefguy on Jul 11th, 2003 at 01:21 AM] |
The above post by Canuckrefguy is probably the most sensible thing said by anyone in this rapidly deteriorating thread. Thanks for bringing some sense to this. Having said that though, I would also add that on a political scale there is little we can do, in the immediate sense at least, when our elected leaders get on their high horses.
There's also no point and IMHO definately no place for politics in sport. Isn't the idea of sport to achieve the utmost in human performance? Regardless of the rules we play by, aren't we all looking to be involved in the perfect game? As a referee in Australia I can only dream of: a) Refereeing the perfect game (in which case I will promptly retire) b) Referee in the NBA/College where I can be a part of athletes trying to achieve THEIR perfect game. Now that I have gotten all idealistic can we return to a more interesting topic. i.e., Davism - bring them on. Even though there are times we cannot use them at least we can think them. Wouldn't that fustrate coaches - wondering why we are smiling to ourselves. Cheers, |
G'day eaco
Eaco, I'm not even going to bother agreeing with you and Canuckrefguy, I've had this conversation with members here until my face was blue and my fingers red (no that isn't supposed to be a pun about the american flag - but it is kinda funny).
Nice to see there is one other Aussie here - someone's gotta educate these northern hemispeherians (dunno if its a word - but it is now) and explain that the world is actually upside down, and Oz is on top!! Many people have been discussing recently the number of non-american players entering the NBA. Here is a bit of trivia for you. One of Australian basketball cult personalities (and a good friend of mine) has just been cast as a wookie in Star Wars III. Type in "Kingma wookie" in google for a bit of a giggle. I'll leave you to go back to the political rants....check ya in another 6 months. Peace! |
Hot diggity, no I am not from Israel, but yes from Australia, the best place in the entire planet :)
Well, it looks like I succesfully stired the pot, in the hope that at least one of you may look outside that USA of yours and realise that, yes, there is a whole other world out there. Long live world basketball and its global rules that makes the playing field even for everyone :) - Isaak |

I think the trapezoid and 6.25m three will be the way to go by 2004-05 for all federations. The trapezoid also promotes more passing, shooting, and cutting.
The NBA's 8-second rule is a FIBA rule as was the influence to eliminate the no-zone rule. FIBA will influence the NBA in rule changes in the future. The arrow has to go, however. The NBA has refused to go by luck. [Edited by Bobby on Jul 15th, 2003 at 10:34 PM] |

One of the roughest, post-dominated games I ever saw was a FIBA game. I also think any NCAA coach who runs a motion offence would have an issue with this statement. Going to the trapezoid will only mean the big guys will beat the s**t out of each other a foot or so further away from the hoop. Ask the NBA if the wide key cuts down on rough play. |

The trapezoid won't happen anytime soon in NFHS, simply because of the labor and cost involved in painting thousands of gyms floors across America. |
We're all just mercenaries anyway
This battle over whether FIBA or NF or NCAA is really kind of pointless, isn't it?
We all gotta work for somebody. We may say we're calling by a certain set of rules, but the truth is that we're calling by a set of rules as interpreted and ammended by an assignor or league or by local custom and practice. Disagree? Count how many times we make comments on this board about "technically the rule says such and such, but I'd never actually call it that way during a game." Or how often we respond to questions with, "we call it such and such way around here, but you'd better check with your assignor." While it is endlessly entertaining to debate the finer points of the rules, would any of us actually pack in officiating if, for instance, high school decided to adopt FIBA rules? Would the FIBA guys quit if FIBA decided to adopt NCAA rules? No, I don't think any of us would. We love doing this enough that we'd do it even if we were told to use the "other guy's" rules. We're all just mercenaries :) |
