anyone have the final throw-in by Missouri? Timeout was called with 2.9 inside the key right around the foul line (per the lovely throw in diagram, ball should have been inbounded in the backcourt on the end line, right?)...any guess as to why ball was inbounded in backcourt on the sideline??

No level of basketball requires two feet inbounds to "reestablish" inbounds...you need something inbounds and nothing out of bounds to be considered inbounds.

You need something touching inbounds and nothing touching out of bounds. No need for two feet. Legal play.

That's one of those "basic" rules I believe all officials should know.

That's why I was asking, I'm a first year official and like most fans/coaches I've always heard the two feet thing. Now I know.

Rules 4-35 (NFHS), 4-46 (NCAA) and 7-1 (both) explain it all.

Nope, that's still wrong. The diagram extends well outside the lane. Still should have been unbounded on the end line. They just got it wrong.

Possibly a good point to emphasize teamwork by a crew...non-calling official might have helped by observing ball location after partner hit his whistle.
