Camron Rust

Congratulations to the Official Forum's own Camron Rust for being a clear choice to work the Oregon 5A boys state championship game. I had the pleasure to watch him work four quality games. The evaluators felt the same way and placed him on the championship which was well deserved.

Congrats to Camron!

Indianaref Mon Mar 12, 2012 09:57am

From the quality of his posts, I totally expect this for him. Congrads to Camron

Scrapper1 Mon Mar 12, 2012 11:30am

Camron, did you have this game? If so, what was the call on the foul at the 2:20 mark of the video?

Congratulations, Camron. What a great run of games to end your season!

Not that one...that was the 6A game. I had the 5A game.

Wow, State final and two man??

I've seen this movie before, definitely intentional and could be flagrant. Three man might have caught this unless these guys just passed on it for some strange reason.

Must be a Northwest thing.

Edit.....Congrats Camron "indoor' Rust

It's Oregon. Two people here can easily do the work of three from somewhere else. Hugging all those trees really builds strength. :D

Wow! Good night, Gracie, you're done for the game.

I like how he raises his hands after the fact.

This is a play where it's either:

(a) start as INT, and see if you have reason to upgrade to F, or
(b) start as F, and see if you justification to downgrade to INT

Congrats to Camron!

First - congrats, Camron. Nice job and well deserved.

Second - holy cow - how can that be anything but flagrant???

Interesting that on the play shown before this, black #44 swats a shot oob and then appears to do a little taunting, which would lead me to wonder if this wasn't white's attempt to get back at black for that...

Those were my exact thoughts when I saw the 2 plays.

Not the same player who gets hammered yet it appears #15, white, reacts to something said. Either way, grab some bench.

truerookie Mon Mar 12, 2012 03:12pm

Why was this not a Flagrant foul and #15 is sitting on the bench? There is no debating. He is E-N-O-D for the night.

Or in the official(s) judgement this would be considered incidental contact.

twocentsworth Mon Mar 12, 2012 03:23pm

congrats on the assignment!

2man in the state championship game....that's not easy.

Flagrant Foul - buh, bye.

bainsey Mon Mar 12, 2012 04:11pm

Congrats, Camron! May we all learn from your wisdom.

There is one more board participant not yet mentioned who was selected to work the Oregon 6A girls championship...icallfouls....he was 1-2 spots out of the boys 6A championship referenced in that video highlight link above....the top game in the Oregon HS playoff system.

He's a very good friend of mine and has been incredibly helpful to me over the last few years. I owe him a lot as I've followed him up the ladder. I don't always agree with him but his advice and influence have certainly contributed to putting me in a spot where I could be selected.

Thanks, Jim!

Jim is a great guy!

But if you ever find yourself agreeing with him on everything, it's time to go see you Doctor!:D

I wish to add my congrats to Camron as well. Well-deserved!!!

Seems that our forum members had an impressive year.

Cam, thank you for the acknowledgments. I would say that it is more about working hard, striving to improve every game, and not being complacent about our game.

BTW, the best piece of advice I ever got, came from a friend of ROCKY's and mine, "if you find yourself agreeing with ROCKY, be on the lookout for batman" :D

Good work Camron!

The game officials went with an intentional foul.

stripes Tue Mar 13, 2012 06:14pm

Congrats! Always nice to have your name called on the last day.

Toren Tue Mar 13, 2012 07:09pm

Congratz guys

Well deserved.

I would have went flagrant, kid throws the bow right at the kids jaw, he never made anything close to an attempt on the ball here.

M&M Guy Tue Mar 13, 2012 07:26pm

Camron - I know I'm a little late to this party, but congrats on the assignment! Hopefully you were able to enjoy the whole experience, not just the game itself. Getting picked to work these games, no matter what the level, is something to be enjoyed.

SCalScoreKeeper Wed Mar 14, 2012 12:55am

Congrats Cameron :D :D :D

Question-why does Oregon operate in Two Man for the finals? Here anything section quarters and beyond is worked in three-man!

Good question....mostly $$$.

And while the overall amount to do it just in the tourney wouldn't be that big o f a deal. Those in power believe it is not a good thing to switch from 2 to 3 just for the playoffs....too many officials would not be sufficiently familiar or comfortable with it and it is probably believed that the net result would be worse.

At least in your system a high school official has a shot to work the state finals. Where I am, officials that work mostly college (and work the minimum number of HS games to qualify) dominate the state tournament and the same people go year after year after year.

Just talked to my friend who worked this game, he was the L on the play. He said from his angle he saw the kid stick his arm out but not push through it.

He said it was a double whistle, they got together and consensus was an intentional foul.

FYI, he hadn't seen the video until I showed him today. His response was, "Holy sh*t!!! If I had seen it from that angle I would have called a flagrant."

Absolutely right, Camron. There would be a big protest here in Oregon since people would claim it would take money away from academics.

BTW - let me add my congrats on your assignment.

Which is another reason why I don't see us going to shot clocks anytime soon, too much money. Not only to fit every school with them but then to have to pay another person to run them.
