What I have learned

I am 56 years old. I have learned a lot in life, but sometimes you forget to transfer what you learn in one part of your life to another part.

I have been married several times ( this time for 17 years. I have gotten better at it ) I have owned several businesses, The one I own now, I have owned for 32 years. I have gotten good at it.

I played basketball, I owned a team ( Rec league ), I coached for 11 years and now I have refereed for 12 years.

What I have learned is it is more fun to start something than it is to finish it. By that I mean, learning what you need to do is fun, proving to people you can do it is fun, but once you get to the top of the mountain, there's no where else to go and you're looking around and saying, " I thought there would be more"

I remember starting out and all the fun games I had. I made mistakes and learned and coaches made mistakes. Now I am at that level, where I do a pretty good job, few mistakes, the coaches do a pretty goo job and it's not as exciting as it once was. I still love it. I am just not as excited as I was even 5 years ago. I am not even going to relate it to my married life, see, I have learned.

What did you learn this year?

That Maryland gets left out of the NCAA tournament whenever possible.

I don't believe there is a top of the mountain for an official.

I remember thinking the same thing about the first, and only, time that the middle school basketball team that I coached won a big post season tournament. We played in this tournament for years, and years, often finishing second. I thought that it would so great to actually win it. It felt great for a few hours, and then, while driving on the way home after the post game party hosted by one of the parents, I thought the same thing that Terrapins Fan thought.

Just once, I'd like to hear the gnashing of teeth over Duke getting left out.

I have learned that Groupthink is not a popular word....;)

That I'm not nearly as good as I thought I was and that once I came to understand the level I was on, I was having a lot more fun doing it.

You have no idea just how popular a joke it has become.
