Make it correctable until there is a change of possession.

Good point just another ref. Otherwise we could have a ball remain live for several minutes with several changes of possession.

At which point the corrected error would be resumed with POI, so it would all be pointless

Well, this is why I wouldn't go to the second dead ball -- if you go to the first dead ball, you don't have to worry much about having all points/fouls/etc. count.

Regardless, I think the current interpretation handcuffs the officials too much -- mistakes happen and allowing the wrong team to complete a throw in shouldn't entitle that team to the ball.

Since I'm not king, it really doesn't matter. I do know I've seen officials ignore the interpretation, though, stop play, and give the ball to the proper team. And I've *never* heard anyone complain. It may not be the right thing to do, but most people think it is.

Team A is awarded the ball for a FCELTI. Ball is inadvertantly handed to Team B, and the throw-in is completed. Team A's fans go nuts. Within 1-2 seconds after the throw-in is completed, administering official blows his whistle, and awards the ball back to Team A.

What would your supervisor say to you if you had done this?

The one constant: all of my supervisors would've been upset.

I think the consensus among them would've been don't make a bad situation worse by screwing up twice.

That's my sentiment as well.
