Opinion - Thank You Appropriate?

Curious what the thoughts are from guys who have assigned before or been around the block:

Is it appropriate for an official to send a thank you card, or a thank you card with some candy, or a thank you card with a gift certificate (say 20 bucks) to their assigner at the conclusion of the season?

I have three assigners, one whom I've never met in person.

A little background: There is a very fine line between being cordial, and being an obnoxious suck-up, understandable. In general, I feel like I do a good job of not annoying people. In my real job, we send small gifts routinely to other professionals when they have referred us business. An example would be when an accountant has introduced us to a business owner.

People like thank you's and gifts, but there is a time and place for everything.

This is really an area specific situation to what you would do to thank an assignor. Personally nothing you sound in my opinion sounds appropriate other than maybe a thank you card and even that sounds a little much. If people do this regularly than maybe it is OK. But I would not do that unless I have heard of others do such a thing. Nothing wrong with thanking an assignor, but sending them stuff might be seen as being a suck up even if the intentions are pure.

Peace

Personally, what I've done is make sure I send a quick email towards the end of the season that has some sort of question, and end it with "Thanks for all that you do!"

I send an email to all my assignors at the end of the season it includes my observations, Association stuff, training, comments, things I need to improve in, etc.

Been doing it for years. Just me.

One of the refs I work kids rec ball with took up a collection at the end of that group's season last week, from as many refs as he could contact who got games from that assignor. He was asking for $5 from each of us, which would total about $225 if everyone contributed. He said he would take the money and buy a gift card at a "fancy" restaurant for the assignor. I sent him my $5 but I don't know how many others contributed. I'll email the ref in a few days to see how it turned out.

BTW - I told him to buy the gift card at Tony's Taco Wagon. :p

I can't think of any situation where it would be appropriate for a man to send candy to another man.

Well, I guess there are some situations...

"...not that there's anything wrong with that."

Send an email, commenting on your season and end it with a thank you.

Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.
