This is a new one for me:

I read the article, interesting, sort of a short version of "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire" with little info on the Rise part.

Interesting article on how a successful program, even with a successful coach, can go downhill.

It's also interesting that the coach tried to use the officials to do his job for him. Unfortunately, the official didn't have to remove Nelson from the game, only have him make the logos not visible.

A Montana rancher once told me that the first thing cows do when you put them in a new pasture is walk the fence line looking for that boundary. It appears there were a few holes in the UCLA fence!

Fixing those holes is the responsibility of the rancher not the cows.

Nice!

Very interesting article. Makes me wonder how many other big time college coaches treat their assistants and managers like that?

I had the "Fashion Police Game From Hell" this past weekend. Prep school boys. Warmup jackets covered up a lot of problems that didn't surface until well into the game. We told two White players, with black undershirts, at two different points in the first half, that they couldn't play with the black undershirts. White arm compression sleeve on a White player. Later, a substitute White player comes out with a black arm compression sleeve. Told players to pick one color. Finally a substitute gets into the game with some type of white bandage covering most of his wrist and thumb. Sure enough, it's a metal splint covered with some bandages, so out he goes.

Same game. We had a technical foul on a player for throwing an elbow that missed it mark after he was fouled, and a technical foul on a coach for stepping several feet onto the court to complain about a travel/block/charge call.

Other than these situations, it was a pretty good game, probably my last of the season.
