Playoff Assignments

I just made it to Reno for the state championships. I was just informed that one of our forum members is doing the boys 4A championship.

Congrats Nevada!

M&M Guy Thu Feb 23, 2012 02:03pm

Wow, congrats to both of you!

Don't forget to have fun, and enjoy the experience.

Congrats Nevada!

Can you pay a good-looking 40-something woman to run on the court when a player gets injured?

walt Thu Feb 23, 2012 04:19pm

Congrats guys! Enjoy it!

JugglingReferee Thu Feb 23, 2012 04:22pm

Congrats!

RookieDude Thu Feb 23, 2012 04:54pm

Congrats guys...

...this site has more than a few "State Officials" here...i.e. rockyroad, zebraman, etc.

Bob and Brad should be VERY PROUD that this site has indeed helped these members attain their goals.

ChuckElias Thu Feb 23, 2012 05:06pm

Popping my head in here to say congrats to Tommy and Nevada. I heard this news last week, but wasn't sure if you guys wanted to go public. But now that it's out there, have a great game!

Allelujah.

ChuckElias: Pitchers and catchers reported last weekend. Position players report this coming weekend. So, what's the holdup? Are you waiting for Manny's fifty game suspension to end? And why would it matter to you, he's not coming back to the Olde Towne Team.

A picture of a squirrel's balls is posted one day. ChuckElias "pops in" the next day. Coincidence? Correlation? Causation?

Thanks to all of you for the congrats and well-wishes.

The update:

Tomegun had the boys semi-final tonight and did a great job with a classic game. 70-68 score.
I was on the girls semi before that one with good partners and enjoyed it.

The Finals are Friday night. I feel fortunate to have been selected and am excited for the opportunity to represent my colleagues.

Update: HS regional semi-final and final. After that I'm sure I'm done.

Further update. My semi-final game tonight will be my first opportunity to work with justacoach's son.

Rick, you need to get off work and make an inpromptu road trip.

One of the top three officials in his family of four.

It doesn't matter which son. They're all better officials than their old man.

Zoochy Fri Feb 24, 2012 03:08pm

Very cool to all working State games. Congrats to ALL!

BillyMac Fri Feb 24, 2012 03:17pm

Upate: I had my last game - a 3A boys semi - yesterday. I think I wore my whistle out with all the fouls I called. Nevada's final was close...if you call a game that was a 40 point blow out at 6:45 of the third quarter close!

We have a mercy rule in Nevada (the state): the clock runs for the remainder of the game if the lead ever gets to 40 points in the second half. Apparently, the rule doesn't apply to the championship games. The head guy told one of the officials that he was using his executive power and they could run the clock if both coaches agreed. The coach losing didn't agree (scratching my head). The lead was up to 50 at times.

The team that won it has the number one player in the country, Shabazz Muhammad. Someone told me he finished with 51! He did all the dunks in his arsenal (360 included) and hit some three-pointers. The winning team starts three players 6'8" or taller - Shabazz is around 6'6" and really plays off guard. It was kind of silly.

If by that you mean to simply to pay the least amount of tax as possible, then good job, dad. Because ain't that the 'merican way?:p

Nice. I've seen justacoach's son and he's very good, especially to still be in undergrad.

BTW- I just found out I got a girls state quarterfinal in BNR's neck of the woods at W&M. My first state assignment!

Congrats to Tomegun and Nevada!

Rich Tue Feb 28, 2012 09:08am

First round boys tonight here. We have an 8 seed against a 9 seed, two small (Division 5) schools. About as good an assignment as there is for the first round, considering most of the top teams either get byes or play a 50 point blowout.

BillyMac Tue Mar 06, 2012 10:46am

It Ain't Bragging If You Can Do It (Dizzy Dean) ...

As an "experienced" journeyman official, I don't get a lot of coach votes for the state high school tournament and I'm alright with that. I know my limitations and the guys that do make it are almost always much better officials than me.

However I got an email this morning. I was selected to work the Catholic middle school state tournament, the second year in a row that I've been selected. And to top it off, my partner is a friend, a top notch official, that I observed working a high school state tournament game last night.

Not a big deal for most of you but it's a big deal for me. It's Saturday afternoon. I can't wait. I'm now officially a part of March Madness. Do I get a secret decoder ring? How about a "Fashion Police" badge?

BayStateRef Tue Mar 06, 2012 12:34pm

Well done, Billy. It's always nice this time of year when the caller ID shows it is the state tournament assignor -- no matter what level of state tournament.

cmckenna Tue Mar 06, 2012 01:39pm

Billy,

Where is that game being played? If it is close enough, I would like to see you work.

BillyMac Tue Mar 06, 2012 05:14pm
