I heard writer John Feinstein on the radio this morning. While plugging his new book "Open" (about last year's U.S. Open), he also threw in a few great stories. One story, I'm sure a few of you already heard, is worth repeating.

Former official Hank Nichols was working a game back in the 80's. The late Jim Valvano was coaching. At one point as Nichols was passing Jimmy V., the coach was yelling "Hank! Hank!" Nichols responded, "Yea, Jimmy." Valvano asked, "Can you "T" me up for what I'm thinking?" Nichols thought about it and said, "No. I can't." Jimmy V them responded with "Then I THINK you SUCK!"

Yeah - he put that one in A March to Madness. The part left out is that Nichols was laughing so hard he couldn't give out the T.
