Another Official Assaulted

I got a call from a friend of mine last night on his way home from working a varsity game. Evidently one of the crew was assaulted by a fan.

During a timeout, a fan chucked a large pickle at one of the officials and hit him in the back. The home coach saw who it was, went across the floor and directed a police officer to remove the fan.

Watch it out there folks.

Wasn't there a Monty Python sketch that featured a flying pickle?

Wasn't a pickle. Wish it was. :o

"Is that a pickle in your hand, or are you just unhappy with the call I just made?"
:p

Had some idiot tossing M&Ms at me between quarters a couple of years ago. I ignored it. An officer spotted the 3rd flying M&M and removed the offender.

Plain or peanut?

And...did you hear about the blonde who was fired from her job in quality control at the M&M factory? She kept throwing out all the W's. :)

It wasn't Jim, I hope.

Some things are consistent enough that NASA could use them to set their clocks.

Gross ... I hate pickles! Might have thrown the guy out just for eating one near me!!

At one school in Houston they used to throw pennies on the floor ... we were always warned not to pick them up because the kids would secretly hold a lighter to them before tossing them out on the court!!

BballRookie Thu Feb 16, 2012 12:28am

Heard through the grapevine that some guy locally got punched in the face in between City Rec games.

Twenty bucks a game sounds a lot worse when you factor in the "could get punched in the face tonight" possibility.

Charges were pressed.

I had an odd game last night. Boys varsity. Visiting team was a high school for kids who either quit "regular" high school, or were thrown out of a "regular" high school. Home team was just one of our regular, local, although quite small, "regular", public high schools. No junior varsity game. As I walked into the school I noticed two police cars parked in front of the gymnasium entrance. This is a school where one is more likely to see a farm tractor parked in front of the school than a police car. There were two police officers, and a school security officer, in the gym, or vicinity, the entire game. The visiting team, that traveled the entire length of the state to play this non-league game, had ended their season early in 2010-11 due to several fights breaking out during their games. Visiting team had only six players, with eleven arms.

Final score: Home 75, Visitor 25. Visitors were extremely well behaved. Not a single problem.

Wow! Let me guess... Jones in HISD.

You would probably recognize the school where the drive by pickeling happened.

Yep -- that and BM reprising questions and IAABO rulings from many years ago.

Coming soon, JAR (?) asking about a blarge.

Followed by my complaining about all of the above.

Bob,

What got given away to the fans thrown at us at the Rockford school we worked at? I still remember one of the objects hitting our third in the head (you and I know who that was) and how upset he got, which to me was pretty amusing (only considering who it was/is).

Some kind of mini-basketball.

Oh...that should have been my other guess. No surprise there. Some of the worst behaved fans I've had in football were from there.

The pickling happened way up 290 between Waller and Chappel Hill. :)

That wasn't a stroke of brilliance, was it? Give away projectiles between the third and fourth quarter so they can throw them at the officials on the way off the court.

Good times, good times...

Reminds me of the Dodgers game where they gave out souvenir baseballs, which promptly became projectiles when the umpires made the fans unhappy.

Maybe the guy who had Bat Day at Shea Stadium came up with that idea.
